Beloved actor Bob Odenkirk has successfully moved into action roles. While his Nobody films were popular, his latest movie, Normal, is getting even better reviews, with a higher score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Before its official release on April 17th, the film Normal has received positive reviews, earning an 85% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. This is a slightly higher score than the first Nobody film (83%) and better than Nobody 2 (76%). While critics seem to like Normal, it’s worth noting that both Nobody movies were also very popular with audiences, receiving scores of 94% and 88% respectively. We’ll have to wait until Normal is released in theaters to see what audiences think of it.
Bob Odenkirk Reunites With Derek Kolstad
Derek Kolstad, known for creating the John Wick movies, wrote Normal. He also wrote the screenplay for Nobody, starring Bob Odenkirk, and helped write Nobody 2. Ben Wheatley, who directed Meg 2: The Trench, directed Normal. The film stars Bob Odenkirk in the main role, along with Henry Winkler (known from Happy Days and Barry), Summer Fontana (Game of Thrones, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles), and Brendan Fletcher (Violent Night, Arrow).
Normal is an action-packed thriller with a Western feel, starring Bob Odenkirk as Ulysses, a temporary sheriff in the quiet town of Normal, Minnesota. What seemed like an easy job quickly turns dangerous when a bank robbery escalates into widespread violence. Ulysses soon discovers a hidden criminal network within the town and must take action to stop it.
Bob Odenkirk Makes the Switch to Action
Bob Odenkirk first became famous for his comedy work, and that’s what most people knew him for a long time. He later showed off his dramatic skills in the highly acclaimed series that served as a prequel to Breaking Bad. He then surprised audiences with his action movie debut in Nobody, which was a big hit. Now, with another successful film called Normal, it looks like he’s continuing a fantastic run in a new direction.
Bob Odenkirk wanted to portray an action hero who reacted realistically in fight scenes. He explained to the Chicago Tribune that most action stars, like Jason Statham and Liam Neeson, always appear completely confident of winning. Odenkirk’s character, in contrast, shows fear and vulnerability – he’s visibly hurt, struggling, and genuinely worried during a fight. Odenkirk felt this offered a fresh take on the genre and a way for him to contribute something unique.
Normal will hit theaters on Apr. 17, 2026.
