Bobby Berk Addresses Backlash Over New Show Amid Queer Eye Cancelation

Bobby Berk wasn’t eyeing to throw shade.

On July 10, the interior designer unveiled his upcoming HGTV series titled “Junk or Jackpot?” – a revelation made only one day following the announcement that the long-running show Queer Eye, where he worked alongside Karamo Brown, Antoni Porowski, Jonathan Van Ness (JVN), and Tan France before being replaced by Jeremiah Brent in 2024, had been terminated after completing its 10th season.

Although some found the timing of his announcement suspicious, Bobby insisted that it had nothing to do with taking a jab at his previous program.

In a recent interview with People, published on August 22nd, Bobby made it clear that he had definitely set the date for his show announcement, emphasizing that such important events are not decided spontaneously but rather carefully pre-planned.

The 43-year-old stated that one of his ex-co-stars also contacted him for some clarity, with the quote being, “Karamo asked, ‘Didn’t you plan this a day earlier?’ To which I replied, ‘No, no, no. I assure you it was prearranged long before.’

To be frank, I, as a lifestyle connoisseur, was just as taken aback as Bobby was when I learned that Queer Eye was being considered for cancellation. Truthfully, I felt it could have been communicated more transparently by Netflix regarding the announcement date, giving us all ample time to express our admiration and support.

“I was on the show for [eight] seasons,” he added, “but yeah, it’s fine.”

Bobby, who has been with husband Dewey Do since 2012, revealed in 2023 that he’d be departing from his successful Emmy-awarded show. As he mentioned then, this decision wasn’t easy for him to make.

He mentioned in his Instagram post that it wasn’t an effortless choice to make peace with, but a crucial one. Despite ending his tenure on Queer Eye, his relationship with you all continues. Prepare for more appearances from him shortly.

Besides expressing gratitude to his supporters, he mentioned, “The affection I’ve received from you all over the past six years has been unbelievably dreamlike. You’ve stayed loyal and enthusiastic viewers, and together we’ve had the privilege of discovering the therapeutic aspects of design. From you, I’ve learned about kindness, love, and acceptance – lessons that have truly improved my life.

Regarding their ex-colleagues from “Queer Eye”? The current members of the Fab Five have been experiencing a wave of nostalgia as their show reaches its conclusion.
