He especially thanked the people who rescued him from his car and the wonderful hospital staff who helped him recover. Considering everything that happened, he’s feeling surprisingly good and is deeply thankful to be alive.

True to his comedic style, Mirman shared an update with fans and the media that had a playful, sarcastic edge. He posted a picture of himself with one hand bandaged, holding a book called “Life is an Adventure,” and used this image to add a layer of irony to his message.

Mirman explained that he’s been offline because he doesn’t have his phone. He jokingly advised against his approach to cutting down on screen time. He also shared that it was difficult not to accept podcast invitations from friends who reached out with supportive messages, adding, ‘I love you all and please take care of yourselves, Eugene.’

As a longtime viewer, I’ve watched Eugene Mirman absolutely become Gene Belcher over the 16 seasons (and still going!) of Bob’s Burgers. Gene, the Belcher family’s wonderfully odd 11-year-old, is a budding comedian – think silly, sometimes gross-out jokes and a whole lot of keyboard sound effects. He’s always playfully frustrating his dad, Bob, who’s a hardworking, no-nonsense guy. But what’s really struck me throughout the series is how Gene, despite all the goofiness, has proven to be just as emotionally complex and genuinely heartfelt as anyone else in the Belcher family.
