Borderlands 4 – BEST Vex Leveling Build (1 – 50)

Fresh off the press, Borderlands 4 has just been released! As expected, you’ll find four vault hunters to pick from. Veteran Borderlands players will recognize this familiar pattern, and despite the new gameplay tweaks introduced in the newest installment, some elements remain consistent. In this guide, we’re going to demonstrate a build that you can test out while elevating Vex to the max level as you progress through the narrative. Enjoy your Borderlands 4 adventure!

Borderlands 4 – BEST Vex Leveling Build (1 – 50)

In simpler terms, playing the game’s story mode doesn’t typically require an optimized character build. You can just play casually and complete it without much fuss. This applies to all Borderlands games, as your luck with weapon drops often determines how quickly you’ll finish the main story, regardless of your character’s build.

In simpler terms, even if you replicate the most excellent setup worldwide, finding a good weapon remains crucial since it might still be challenging to defeat a single wave of adversaries. However, possessing the ideal setup will somewhat alleviate those difficult moments.

Moxsy, a popular YouTuber who got early access to the game, has developed a build centered around specters. Since he’s been able to test the game extensively and reach max level several times, this build is well-refined. Please remember that obtaining the necessary items can be quite dependent on luck with RNG (Random Number Generation), so let’s focus on understanding the skill nodes, as those are simpler to replicate.

For clarity, it’s worth noting that only 6% of Steam players have defeated the first significant boss in the game so far, indicating an early stage in the release timeline and a lengthy game. Now, I’d like to highlight several key points within the build you should focus on:

1. Early-game boss fight statistics indicate we’re still quite early into the game’s lifecycle.
2. The extensive nature of the game is suggested by these stats.
3. Focusing on specific aspects of the build will be beneficial as we move forward in the game.
4. By paying attention to these nodes, you should find success with your chosen build.

  • Dead Ringer – Obviously, since you are doing a specter-based build, you are going to be using this action skill and its attached skill tree.
  • Coven – This augment will give you and your minions more critical hit chance whenever you spawn a specter. You can even take advantage of the heal from spawning a reaper whenever you really need some active healing.
  • Sanguine Fiends – This passive will give you some healing every time you or your minions get a kill. This will be essential for your survival and self-sustain, so you can last long without really thinking about your health at all.
  • Cold Iron – This increases the gun damage of both Vex and her minions. Obviously, this is also really good because it just adds raw damage to everything you are going to be throwing at enemies.
  • Grave Assault – This kill skill will increase you and your minions’ fire rate up to three stacks. This will further increase you and your minions’ damage per second, which is, again, really good.
  • Grave Quickening – This passive is a fine node as well, since it will let you cast your action skill much more frequently. More specter uptime means more damage and more spamming.
  • Prismatic Weaponry – This makes it so that you and your minions deal more damage with critical hits, and it will deal a random elemental type every time you reload. This is just even more DPS on top of your already stacked up DPS numbers.
  • Obedient Fiends – This will increase the damage of your minions. We should not need to explain why this is good at this point.
  • Ancient Rites – This is good as well because it will further increase your minion damage by simply having minions out in the field. Just keep spamming and you will keep destroying everything without issue.
  • Dark Pact – This unlocks the ability to equip a second augment, which will further strengthen your ability. It gives you a bonus active ability that is incredibly strong for both damage and healing purposes.
  • Prismatic Ichor – This allows you to apply a ton of elemental statuses on enemies as it will add a random one on top of whatever element you are slapping onto stuff.
  • Portents of Suffering – Increases the status effect damage for both Vex and her minions. This is good later on once you start having the capability to stack up a lot of statuses. Reallocate some of your points into this at later levels.
  • Guns and Needles – Add some points into this at later levels. This is under the Incarnate skill tree, and you will want this for specific Repkit builds if you have one that you can spam for combat buffs.
  • Bloodletter – Another one in the Incarnate skill tree, this will give your critical hits a chance to apply bleed, which is another status effect that you can add to the pile of stuff you stack on enemies.
  • Fiendish Invigoration – Another one in the Incarnate skill tree, this will give you and your minions bonus movement speed and fire rate every time you use your repkit. It is a decent damage per second boost depending on how spammable your repkit is.

As a fellow enthusiast, these are the skill nodes you should definitely monitor during your journey to level 50. They’re arranged in an order that aligns with your progression through the grind, ensuring a smooth and efficient leveling process. While we won’t delve into items here, by the time you reach max level and move on to post-story content, they will become less significant.

In Borderlands games, like any other, the true challenging phase begins once you hit the maximum level. If you endeavor to grind for specific items before then, you might find yourself spending unnecessary time that could have been utilized for experience farming via quests and contracts instead. As you progress through levels, you’ll gradually discover which build best suits your playstyle, and a big part of the enjoyment in this series lies in crafting your own powerful yet unconventional setup!
