Borderlands 4 – BEST Vex Leveling Build (1 – 50)

Title just released: Borderlands 4

Familiar formula returns as players select from four vault hunters in this new installment of Borderlands. Aptly experienced Borderlands players will recognize these standard elements, and even with the recent gameplay modifications, there are still recognizable aspects to appreciate. This guide provides one build for optimizing Vex’s development throughout the storyline as you level up.

Borderlands 4

Choose from four vault hunters, similar to previous Borderlands games. Even with new gameplay adjustments in this latest entry, there are still familiar elements that resonate. This tutorial showcases a build for leveling up Vex during the story progression.

Borderlands 4 – BEST Vex Leveling Build (1 – 50)

In simpler terms, the game’s story mode is straightforward enough that you typically won’t need to obsess over optimizing your character build while playing it. This applies to all Borderlands games, as luck in acquiring weapons largely determines the pace at which most players complete the main story.

Even if you replicate the top-notch construction globally, you might encounter difficulties in defeating just one wave of adversaries due to the lack of a good weapon. However, using an ideal setup will undoubtedly make such challenging situations a bit more manageable.

We present you with Moxsy’s specter-focused game setup, a YouTuber who was among the first to gain access to the game. Having spent considerable time testing various aspects of the game and achieving maximum levels multiple times, he offers valuable insights.

Please be aware that obtaining certain items will heavily depend on luck, so we’ll focus primarily on discussing the skill nodes. These are easier to replicate compared to acquiring the items themselves.

For your convenience, it’s important to note that just 6% of Steam players have defeated the first significant boss at the time of writing. This early stage in the release process and the game’s length are likely factors contributing to this percentage. Now, let’s focus on the crucial nodes you should keep an eye on for this build:

1. Node A: Known for its potent area-of-effect damage, it synergizes well with your chosen playstyle.
2. Node B: Offers a significant boost in survivability, making you more resilient against tough enemies.
3. Node C: Provides an advantage when engaging multiple targets at once, enhancing your crowd control abilities.
4. Node D: Grants a notable increase in movement speed, allowing for faster traversal of the game world and evading enemy attacks.
5. Node E: Enhances your primary attack, offering increased damage output or additional effects to better suit your needs.

  • Dead Ringer – Obviously, since you are doing a specter-based build, you are going to be using this action skill and its attached skill tree.
  • Coven – This augment will give you and your minions more critical hit chance whenever you spawn a specter. You can even take advantage of the heal from spawning a reaper whenever you really need some active healing.
  • Sanguine Fiends – This passive will give you some healing every time you or your minions get a kill. This will be essential for your survival and self-sustain, so you can last long without really thinking about your health at all.
  • Cold Iron – This increases the gun damage of both Vex and her minions. Obviously, this is also really good because it just adds raw damage to everything you are going to be throwing at enemies.
  • Grave Assault – This kill skill will increase you and your minions’ fire rate up to three stacks. This will further increase you and your minions’ damage per second, which is, again, really good.
  • Grave Quickening – This passive is a fine node as well, since it will let you cast your action skill much more frequently. More specter uptime means more damage and more spamming.
  • Prismatic Weaponry – This makes it so that you and your minions deal more damage with critical hits, and it will deal a random elemental type every time you reload. This is just even more DPS on top of your already stacked up DPS numbers.
  • Obedient Fiends – This will increase the damage of your minions. We should not need to explain why this is good at this point.
  • Ancient Rites – This is good as well because it will further increase your minion damage by simply having minions out in the field. Just keep spamming and you will keep destroying everything without issue.
  • Dark Pact – This unlocks the ability to equip a second augment, which will further strengthen your ability. It gives you a bonus active ability that is incredibly strong for both damage and healing purposes.
  • Prismatic Ichor – This allows you to apply a ton of elemental statuses on enemies as it will add a random one on top of whatever element you are slapping onto stuff.
  • Portents of Suffering – Increases the status effect damage for both Vex and her minions. This is good later on once you start having the capability to stack up a lot of statuses. Reallocate some of your points into this at later levels.
  • Guns and Needles – Add some points into this at later levels. This is under the Incarnate skill tree, and you will want this for specific Repkit builds if you have one that you can spam for combat buffs.
  • Bloodletter – Another one in the Incarnate skill tree, this will give your critical hits a chance to apply bleed, which is another status effect that you can add to the pile of stuff you stack on enemies.
  • Fiendish Invigoration – Another one in the Incarnate skill tree, this will give you and your minions bonus movement speed and fire rate every time you use your repkit. It is a decent damage per second boost depending on how spammable your repkit is.

Here are the skill nodes you should focus on while progressing, arranged in the sequence you’ll likely want to develop through your journey to level 50. We won’t discuss items here because they become inconsequential as you reach maximum level and move into post-story content.

In Borderlands games, the true challenge begins post-level cap. If you attempt to grind for specific items or builds prior to reaching maximum level, you might find yourself squandering valuable time that could have been invested in earning EXP through missions and contracts instead. As you progress and level up, you’ll gradually discover your preferred build, and one of the appealing aspects of this series is crafting your own powerful and unique playstyle!
