Borderlands 4 has been available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X for a few weeks now, allowing fans of the wild and post-apocalyptic looter shooter series plenty of time to both play and think about the new game. As our official review points out, there are many enhancements compared to Borderlands 3. However, it’s not perfect – there are some areas where it takes a step back as well.
Recently, a new discussion started on the Borderlands 4 Reddit page focusing on features players are missing from Borderlands 3 – things that were either taken out or altered in the new game. It turns out fans are missing quite a bit! However, one feature is getting a lot of attention, receiving significantly more upvotes than any other suggestion.
A comment expressing sadness that Gearbox took out the custom bedroom feature, even though it had limitations in Borderlands 3, received nearly twice as many votes as any other comment. It seems a lot of Borderlands players were hoping this feature would return and be improved in Borderlands 4. However, Gearbox had different ideas. The comment also points out that players miss having one central location where all the characters can meet and hang out.
“I really miss having a personalized bedroom, even though it wasn’t very big. I wish they had kept that feature and built on it in the fourth game,” the comment says. It’s fun to think about how over-the-top and gritty Vex’s room could have been! It’s also good to have one main place where everyone gathers. Instead, we ended up with a bunch of smaller areas, and none of them feel like a true central hub or connect to the Vault Hunter.”
In the comments, one player highlighted that the game doesn’t create a sense of teamwork. Instead, it feels like you’re just “a person doing tasks for others.” The fact that this comment received a lot of upvotes suggests it’s a significant issue for many players and a key area where the game falls short.
Naturally, the Borderlands 4 Reddit page doesn’t represent all fans, but it includes a lot of the most dedicated players. It might be too late for Gearbox to fix these problems in Borderlands 4, but hopefully they’ll consider this feedback when developing Borderlands 5.
I’ve been playing the Borderlands games for a while now, and honestly, it still feels like they’re having trouble bringing everything together. The gameplay, story, characters, and all the different systems just don’t *quite* mesh into one really immersive experience. It’s got a lot of good stuff going for it – it’s a good collection of pieces – but it still *feels* like just that: a collection. Anyway, I’d love to hear what *you* think! Feel free to leave a comment below, or join the discussion over on the ComicBook Forum.
