Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode increases both the challenge and the rewards, acting as the endgame content in Borderlands 4. It’s completely optional, but unlocking it and then progressing through its levels to achieve top ranks requires a significant time investment and effort.
This guide to Borderlands 4 walks you through how to unlock Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode and its five different levels.
Unlock Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode
First, you need to finish the main story campaign. After that, you’ll get new missions by talking to Lilith at the bar inside Moxxi’s Bottoms Up!, which is located in the Ruined Sumplands of Carcadia Burn.
Once you finish the initial Ultimate Vault Hunter: Wildcard mission given by her, Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode will start automatically at its easiest level, which begins at level one.
You can change the difficulty level whenever you want through the Session Settings found in the Main Menu.
You unlock further levels by completing another set of four Ultimate Vault Hunter challenges, finishing with a new Wildcard mission. However, you must play these challenges on the hardest difficulty you’ve unlocked up to that point.
The final Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode difficulty level is rank five.
Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode Mechanics
As you progress through the ranks, enemy health and damage dealt will both increase. You’ll also earn more XP. Additionally, you can expect a substantial boost in cash, Eridium, and the overall quality of items you find.
That is everything you need to know in order to unlock Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode in Borderlands 4.
