In this installment of “Beyond the Borderlands,” Lin Joyce (Gearbox’s managing narrative director) and Sam Winkler (narrative director) offer further insights into the upcoming “Borderlands 4.” This round, they explore Kairos’ diverse factions and their influential leaders.
The primary significant group is the Outbounders, headed by Rush, who also arrive on Kairos and express a strong desire to depart. Eventually, they unite with the Crimson Resistance, along with the Vault Hunters. Additionally, there are the Augers, descendants of the initial mining crews dispatched from the planet by the Timekeeper, with Calder as their leader.
As Idolator Sol, ruler of the Fadefields, I strive for the approval of the main antagonist, yet in the harsh expanse of Terminus Range, there’s the Vile Lictor, an Auger with a penchant for Eridium experiments. Meanwhile, the Electi, once the elite of the Timekeeper’s city, now find themselves cast out following Elpis’ collision with our world. Led by Levain, they scramble to survive, much like every other being in this chaotic universe.
In the end, there’s the character known as the Ripper Queen in Cadia Burn, who removes her Bolt (and those of her soldiers, whether they agree or not) and stands against the Timekeeper. Regarding the Timekeeper, he poses a constant danger that looms over the player’s decisions.
Joyce ultimately referred to the sequel as a “pivotal moment in our cosmos,” making it intriguing to experience so you can understand “how it ties into our earlier works” and also “where it leads us in the conclusion.
The highly-anticipated game, Borderlands 4, will be released on September 12th, available on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and personal computers. Additionally, it will be made accessible for Nintendo Switch 2 at a later date. You can preview the story trailer by clicking here.
