Gearbox Entertainment recently shared an updated plan for Borderlands 4, marking their first announcement of the year. They’ve already started with a significant update that includes a Photo Mode and gameplay balancing adjustments. Coming up, players can expect Bounty Pack 2: Legend of the Stone Demon in February, and Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned in March.
This update is special because it introduces Pearlescent gear, which is a new level of rarity. You can earn these items even without owning the downloadable content, though some loot is only available to those who purchase it. If you’re interested in the first Story Pack, it adds a new playable character named C4SH, along with a new storyline. This includes exploring a new area with plenty of missions, new items to collect, and new cosmetic options.
The game will get a new, incredibly tough boss fight and a challenging new area to explore in the second quarter of 2026. This new area, called a ‘Takedown,’ will test players with waves of enemies and unique boss battles. If you can conquer it, you’ll earn the game’s best rewards.
Gearbox is adding more things to do after you finish the main story, aiming to make previously completed content even more challenging and rewarding. They’re also raising the level cap and introducing features like cross-platform saves and shared progression – meaning items and discoveries you unlock will be available to all your future characters. Plus, they plan to host various free, limited-time events.
Borderlands 4 is now available on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC. However, there’s no confirmed release date yet for a version on the new Nintendo Switch 2. A retailer in Portugal recently suggested a release date of February 27th, leading to speculation that we might hear official news during next week’s expected Nintendo Direct presentation. We’ll keep you updated as more information becomes available.
Get ready for more Borderlands adventures! Bounty Pack 2: Legend of the Stone Demon and Story Pack 1: Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned are coming soon as part of our post-launch plans. Plus, we’re already looking ahead to Borderlands 4 in 2026!
