It’s now clear that the finale for Borderlands 4 is out in the open, but fans are curious about future updates. Luckily, Gearbox Software has already confirmed free upgrades and two story expansions, and at PAX West, they shared a detailed plan about what we might encounter post-release.
As an eager fan, I’m thrilled to share that starting Q4 2025, we have some exciting updates in store! The first one will debut with a captivating mini-event called “Horrors of Kairos.” This event is absolutely free and comes packed with new Legendary weapons, cosmetics, and even a weather variant to enhance your gaming experience.
In the same quarter, we’re launching Bounty Pack 1. This pack will introduce a Vault Card containing four items of “rerollable gear,” 24 stunning cosmetics, fresh Legendary gear, new missions that promise an adrenaline rush, and a brand-new boss to conquer!
So, buckle up, gamers! The fun is just getting started.
The second free upgrade brings in the introduction of the initial Invincible boss to the game, along with a tougher version of this boss and a fresh arena. Additionally, an extra challenge level is being introduced for Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode, accompanied by new Legendary items. By Q1 2026, players can expect Bounty Pack 2’s release which includes another new boss, missions, Legendary equipment, and a Vault Card. Moreover, Pearlescent rarity items will be added for free as part of this update.
Mad Ellie and the Cursed Vault”
This is our debut Story Pack, planned for release around the same timeframe, which introduces a brand-new character, Ellie, as a playable Vault Hunter. In addition to her introduction, it offers fresh main story missions, side activities, an extended map area, numerous legendary items, and additional cosmetic options to customize your character.
Regarding future content updates, such as new invincible bosses, they are scheduled for release “past Q1 2026.
The new installment in the Borderlands series, titled Borderlands 4, will debut on September 12th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC, with a Nintendo Switch release following on October 3rd. This marks the first mainline game in the franchise since 2019. With development spanning six years and a budget over double that of Borderlands 3, fans are eagerly anticipating its arrival.
