If you’re pondering over which Vault Hunter to choose in Borderlands 4, our tier list can provide a handy guide! We’ll arrange all the 4 Vault Hunters in order from top-tier to lower tiers, offering brief insights into each character’s key strengths and potential weaknesses. It’s important to note that all of them exhibit significant power in this version, but some outperform others slightly. After all, isn’t it typical for some characters to excel a bit more than others?
Tier List – Every Vault Hunter From Best to Worst | Borderlands 4
#1 – Rafa the Exo-Soldier (S Tier)
We choose Rafa as our top character for two main reasons: firstly, he’s easy to control and secondly, he’s highly effective in a wide range of situations. His Action Skills are particularly impressive when it comes to dealing damage, especially the Peacebreaker Cannons. Additionally, using an Action Skill not only boosts his mobility but also enhances his damage output due to his Overdrive Trait. This trait can be upgraded later on to further bolster his defenses.
With his exceptional ability to dish out damage and adaptability, Rafa stands out as the one who ensures his ammunition is always plentiful. Coupled with his mobility, he transforms into a relatively safe Vault Hunter, perfect for newcomers, whether they prefer playing alone or in groups.
If you’re looking for a character who excels in most situations and is relatively straightforward to manage, then Rafa could be the right choice. However, it’s important to note that his simplicity might not offer enough depth for some players, and he may fall short in terms of crowd control capabilities.
#2 – Vex the Siren (S Tier)
In contrast to the majority of Sirens within the series, Vex exhibits a playstyle more akin to FL4K from Borderlands 3. Remarkably, Vex’s primary strength lies in her capacity to conjure minions during combat to aid her. These minions are incredibly beneficial when playing alone, but they prove their worth even in multiplayer situations. They effectively divert the attention of enemies away from Vex, giving her an opportunity to overpower them.
Vex’s adaptability shines particularly with her Phase Covenant Trait. This unique feature allows all of her abilities, including her Action Skill, to match the elemental type of the weapon she’s currently using. As a result, she can effectively capitalize on the best elemental type in any given combat situation.
Vex proves herself as an exceptional Vault Hunter in most scenarios, firmly earning a spot among the game’s strongest characters. However, it’s worth noting that managing her minion resources can be crucial to maximize her potential.
#3 – Harlowe the Gravitar (A Tier)
Harlowe showcases unique characteristics, leaning towards a defensive and supportive role in gameplay. She resembles Borderlands 2’s Maya quite strongly due to her abilities. Specifically, her Entanglement Trait causes enemies to become entangled when she activates her Action Skill. This trait proves incredibly useful for managing large groups of enemies as well as limiting the actions of stronger opponents.
Besides that, Harlowe can additionally freeze and irradiate opponents with Cryo and Radiation abilities. These elements are primarily used to weaken enemies, serving more as support skills. In line with this supportive playstyle, Harlowe also enhances her allies. Essentially, she boosts the entire team’s power, even herself!
Here’s my take: While Harlowe is a character I admire for her support skills, I have to say that, from my personal experience, she might not be the ideal choice for solo gameplay. However, let me clarify that she can certainly hold her own in single-player mode! Yet, it’s undeniable that she truly excels and shows her full potential in multiplayer scenarios. So, if you’re considering playing Harlowe, remember to factor in the cooperative aspect of her performance.
#4 – Amon the Forgeknight (B Tier)
In our lineup, Amon takes the final spot. Please note that this position does not imply his inferiority; in fact, none of the Vault Hunters from Borderlands 4 are particularly weak. However, it’s worth mentioning that compared to the others, Amon might be a bit more challenging to fully utilize effectively.
One aspect that can make Amon challenging to play is his Forge Skill Trait, which alters his capabilities based on the Action Skill he’s currently armed with. To maximize effectiveness, it’s recommended to strategically time when to activate these abilities, as they are designed to synergize with his Action Skill. Instead of using them individually, it’s best to aim for combinations of abilities for optimal results.
Besides this, Amon is also somewhat slower and significantly larger than the other Vault Hunters, but don’t let that fool you! He certainly has the stats to support his size, making him a formidable presence in battle. In fact, Amon resembles a tank both physically and statistically, which means you can expect to endure battles that would leave the other Vault Hunters in ruins with ease if you choose him for your team.
In essence, Amon requires more mastery compared to Rafa and Vex due to his distinct characteristics feeling somewhat awkward initially. However, for those ready to invest time and energy, he offers significant rewards.
Here’s my take:
