The developers at Gearbox have announced via social media that a photo mode feature will be added to ‘Borderlands 4‘ later on, following its initial release on September 12th. This wasn’t available when the game launched, but it’s expected to come as part of an update after launch. On the social media platform X, the creative director of ‘Borderlands 4’, Graeme Timmins, confirmed this feature for the game.
Hello there! Just checking if it’s true that Timmins revealed on X that Photo Mode will be included in Borderlands 4 at a later date, following the game’s initial release?
Timmins explained that at the initial release of the game, Gearbox decided to prioritize certain elements over others, with a primary focus on enhancing the in-game play experience. He further clarified that while they had always intended to incorporate a photo mode into Borderlands 4, improving the gameplay aspects took precedence.
Timmins stated that we focused on refining some other key aspects, crucial for the immediate gameplay experience. These elements were previously scheduled, assigned, and now simply required extra attention to enhance the player’s quality of life within the game.
In response to another post, Timmins mentioned that Borderlands 4 does not have the auto-sell feature present in Borderlands 3, which helped players manage their inventories more efficiently. He explained that although the feature was introduced towards the end of Borderlands 3’s life cycle, developers decided against including auto sell at the launch of Borderlands 4 to prevent devaluing loot. Instead, when players find items they don’t wish to keep in Borderlands 4, there will be an option called “Take as Junk.” Later on, players can use the “Sell All Junk” feature with vendors to get rid of unwanted items.
A few weeks back, I brought up the point that when we incorporated an element into BL3, it was nearing the end of its lifespan. I’m not keen on introducing a feature at the beginning of BL4 that might undermine our fantastic loot. For the time being, we’re going with ‘Take as Junk’ approach.
As a die-hard fan, I’m thrilled to hear that Borderlands 4 is planned to receive numerous post-release enhancements once it drops on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and the yet-to-be-released Nintendo Switch 2. The man at the helm, Randy Pitchford, has shared his enthusiasm for delivering DLC content, assuring us that there will be no paid early access offerings.
“Pitchford expressed his excitement about Borderlands 4 being priced at $69.99 instead of $80, and he’s thrilled they’re skipping paid early access and advancing the release date to September 12. He’s also excited that they have a lot of fantastic DLC planned.”
Regarding the specific features of Borderlands 4’s post-release downloadable content, Gearbox Software has kept mum about it so far. But by examining the different editions of the game available for pre-purchase, we can glean a few hints. New missions, story elements, and vehicles are among the planned DLC releases.
We decided to focus on refining certain key aspects, crucial for the gameplay experience in real-time. These areas have been on our agenda all along, and we simply required additional work hours to enhance features that would significantly improve the player’s gaming experience.
