Almost two weeks prior to its launch, Gearbox Software has revealed details about the endgame for Borderlands 4 at PAX West. This “very ambitious” design includes the resurrection of Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode, but unlike before where another New Game Plus tier followed True Vault Hunter Mode, it now presents as a post-game situation instead.
Instead of replaying the campaign, players will engage in tough new tasks, progressing to more demanding levels. Additionally, players can access specialized roles, much like the Paragon system in games such as Diablo 3/4, where points can be earned to boost stats across four categories. The rewards include set bonuses called Firmware, with higher ranks providing extra choices.
If you’re seeking a particular bonus from an item but dislike it overall, you have the option to transfer it to another one (although this action is only allowed once and will destroy the original item). To keep gamers engaged in the post-game content, there are Weekly Wildcards, which offer rotating missions that grant Legendary items as rewards, and a Weekly Big Encore Boss that requires Eridium. Additionally, you can explore the planet to find Maurice’s Black Market Machine for loot acquisition.
The new game, “Borderlands 4,” set to release on September 12th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC, offers single-player modes for all activities. Additionally, it features an online matchmaking system for multiplayer experiences. For Nintendo Switch users, the game will be available on October 3rd.
