Charli XCX defended herself against critics following her performance at Glastonbury Festival 2025, which took place last Saturday (June 28th, 2025).
On The Other Stage, the main act performed by the 360 artist was highly sought after, causing them to close off access to the field prior to the show due to overwhelming demand.
During her 90-minute concert, Charli delivered an energetic showcase of popular songs such as Guess, Girl So Confusing, and I Don’t Care. The stage was illuminated with flashing strobe lights and at one point, Charli performed in a simulated rain shower.
The famous British performer signaled an end to her “Brat Era” in a unique way, burning down the stage curtain labeled ‘Brat’ before taking the stage for her performance of Von Dutch. Alongside her, pop sensation Gracie Abrams captivated audiences as the ‘Apple dancer’.
Nevertheless, following reports of dissatisfaction from home viewers over her usage of autotune, backing tracks, and digital vocal processing, Charli addressed the criticism by discussing what truly defines quality art.
In a post on X (previously Twitter), Charli expressed: “The notion that using deliberate autotune in singing makes you a fraud, or that lacking a conventional band implies you’re not a genuine artist, is about as uninteresting as one could get. Frankly, it bores me so much I almost fell asleep. xx
She expressed delight in the retro-style comments about her Glastonbury performance in her third message. It’s quite intriguing to her, she added. Furthermore, she took the opportunity to express her gratitude for The Guardian’s five-star review.
Additionally, she posted a collection of snapshots taken during the occasion, featuring Gracie performing the trending Apple dance upfront, the Brat symbol burning brightly, and spectators igniting sparklers among the throng.
Another post saw her share a clip of the Brat curtain on fire, simply writing, “love you”.
During the show on Saturday, Charli expressed to the audience, “Although I’m often perceived as cold-hearted, this moment is incredibly moving.
Towards the close of the main performance, a trend observed in her previous festival concerts, messages appeared on large screens left and right of the stage expressing gratitude to the audience and stating, “You’ve shown me that Brat will live on eternally.
The next message read: “I don’t know who I am if it’s over.”
