As a big fan of both Blue Bloods and its new spinoff, Boston Blue, I’ve been hoping to see some familiar faces cross over. It looks like that might actually happen soon, which is really exciting!
Viewers who enjoyed the original series have been eager to see Jamie Reagan (Will Estes), Eddie Janko (Vanessa Ray), and their child featured on Boston Blue. This anticipation has grown since the Blue Bloods spinoff suggested that new members of the Reagan family might appear in the show.
During the last season of Blue Bloods, Jamie and Eddie revealed they were going to have a baby, but the child was never actually shown on the series. Now, Brandon Margolis, the show’s creator, has hinted that viewers will likely see the baby at some point. He playfully suggested there’s a good chance the child will appear in the first season of the spin-off, Boston Blue.
So, everyone naturally assumed the kid on set had their parents around, but when I asked, Margolis was super tight-lipped. He basically said he couldn’t confirm or deny if they were there for the later episodes of Boston Blue‘s first season. It was a frustrating answer, honestly, but he was clearly under instructions not to say anything!
Now that Boston Blue has been renewed for a second season, the show’s creator says it allows for the return of familiar faces. While he wouldn’t reveal any specific characters who might appear, Margolis explained that he and the writers are exploring ways to incorporate characters from Blue Bloods into the spinoff. He added that any appearances by original characters will only happen if it makes sense for the story, and he’s eager to include them when appropriate.
We were renewed for a second season thanks to strong viewership, which means we’ll have more chances to feature the Reagans. We’re definitely interested in bringing them back, and we’re actively looking for compelling storylines that fit them into Danny and Sean’s experiences. I can’t reveal too much right now without giving away any surprises, but invitations to return are definitely out there.
As a big fan of Blue Bloods, I’m thrilled to hear some familiar faces will be joining the Boston Blue spinoff! Bridget Moynahan is coming back as Erin Reagan-Boyle for the second half of the first season, and she’s even going to direct an episode, which is fantastic. Plus, Len Cariou – the wonderful Henry Reagan, Danny’s grandfather – is going to make a guest appearance too. It’s great to see the Blue Bloods family extending to this new show!
Boston Blue season 1 airs new episodes on Fridays at 10:00 PM ET and 7:00 PM PT on CBS.
