Boston Blue’s Sean Actor Weighs In On That New Love Interest, And I’m Nervous

Be warned, this contains spoilers for the latest episode of Boston Blue, titled “Code of Ethics.” You can watch it now if you have a Paramount+ subscription.

The latest episode of Boston Blue introduced actress Xochitl Gomez (known for her roles in Marvel and winning Dancing With the Stars) as Penny, a potential love interest for Sean. However, things got complicated when it was revealed Penny has a criminal record, leaving Sean unsure about pursuing a relationship. After hearing what the new actor playing Sean, Mika Amonsen, has to say about their future, I’m even more anxious to see how things unfold for the couple.

Last Friday’s episode, titled “Code of Ethics,” featured Sean and Jonah meeting a woman named Penny during their patrol. While Sean was immediately attracted to her, Jonah discovered she had a criminal record. This created conflict for Sean, who struggled with his feelings for Penny despite her past. His father disapproved, as expected. Creator Eric Amonsen explained to Us Weekly that introducing Penny was always going to be complicated.

Danny keeps referring to someone as a ‘crook,’ and he really likes saying it. We’re facing some difficulties, but I’ll leave it to the audience to keep watching and see how things unfold, and whether Penny comes back.

Penny is set to return, coinciding with a storyline for Gomez that will span multiple episodes. This will likely create challenges for both her and Sean. They quickly connected, and it was obvious Reagan was developing feelings, though others warned him against it. While the length of Gomez’s appearance is still unknown, the actor hinted that his character’s connection with Penny will cause complications, particularly impacting Sean’s relationship with his father, Danny.

She’s still in the picture, and her connection with Sean is growing stronger. Their relationship with Danny is difficult for both of them, but especially for Sean, who seems to be experiencing a serious relationship for the first time. He’s learning how to balance work and his personal life.

I’m concerned about this for a couple of reasons. It’s clear Danny doesn’t like Penny, and I’m worried about Sean, both as his father and as a detective. This situation could easily cause problems between them.

Penny has a history she’s trying to leave behind – she used to be a lookout for burglars and is still on parole. While she seems to have moved on, her past could resurface and create problems, potentially putting Sean in danger without her even knowing. Sean is capable of defending himself, but anything could happen.

I absolutely love Paramount+! For just $7.99 a month, or even better, $59.99 for the whole year, I can watch everything CBS has to offer. The best part? New episodes of my favorite shows are added the very next day after they’re on TV. It’s a total game-changer!

He’s certainly not alone if he needs assistance. Now that Sean and Jonah are roommates, they’re likely watching out for each other – whether that’s a good thing or not. Since Jonah was already unsure about Sean and Penny’s relationship, it will be interesting to see how things develop as they continue dating.

Currently, things are good between everyone involved. But the actor’s recent statements do worry me about the future.

Expect more exciting developments in Boston Blue as the season goes on, and this particular story arc could be a major one. The show is taking a break next week for Thanksgiving, but new episodes will return on Friday, December 5th at 10 p.m. Eastern Time on CBS.
