It’s always disappointing when a show or movie leaves a streaming service, but it’s particularly frustrating when it happens right before a potential revival. While HBO Max has added some new content this January, subscribers only have a few days left to watch both seasons of a beloved fantasy series from the 2000s, as rumors suggest a Hollywood reboot might be in the works.
The complete run of Bryan Fuller’s charming but brief series, Pushing Daisies, will be removed from HBO Max on January 28th, ironically as fans and the creator himself express renewed interest in a third season. The show, a whimsical blend of fairytale and crime drama, centers on Ned (played by Lee Pace), a pie-maker with the extraordinary ability to bring people back to life with just a touch. Over its two seasons, Ned uses this gift to solve crimes by temporarily reviving murder victims.
Pushing Daisies Is an Unforgettable Storybook Show
Pushing Daisies was a critically acclaimed show, earning 17 Emmy nominations and winning seven. It also received remarkably high scores from both critics and audiences on Rotten Tomatoes – averaging 96% and 95%, and even achieving a perfect 100% rating for its second season. All this recognition was certainly well-deserved.
Despite being a truly unique and imaginative show, Pushing Daisies only lasted two seasons, which was a real shame. It brilliantly combined the charm of a fairytale with the intrigue of a murder mystery, creating something unlike anything else on television – and it still stands out today. The show was visually stunning, looking like a pop-up storybook, and its blend of crime-solving and a sweet, but complicated romance drew viewers in. But beyond the surface, Pushing Daisies tackled surprisingly deep themes, making it both an enjoyable escape and a show with real meaning.
Since Pushing Daisies ended in 2009, fans have passionately campaigned for its return – a desire that’s grown even stronger with the recent trend of TV reboots. In 2015, the show topped Esquire’s “TV Reboot Tournament,” winning a fan vote for the most-wanted revival. Now, it looks like those wishes might come true. Just as the show’s protagonist could bring things back to life, Hollywood is considering a new season of Pushing Daisies. Creator Bryan Fuller revealed in December that they have a plan for a third season and the original cast is eager to return, but it depends on finding a studio willing to make it happen.
Where to Stream Pushing Daisies After It Leaves HBO Max?
It’s frustrating that Pushing Daisies is so hard to find! Currently, you can only stream both seasons on HBO Max, and it looks like it might be removed from the platform on January 28th. While it could return to streaming services later, the most reliable way to watch it will be to rent or buy the episodes online. If only someone had the power to keep it available all the time!
