Bowen Yang, best known as a popular cast member on Saturday Night Live, recently took on a role that allowed him to explore playing a villain.
I really enjoyed Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur! Even though it’s made for a younger crowd, the show does a great job of keeping the Marvel characters true to themselves. It was cool to find out Greg Yang, who’s a really talented voice actor, played Mister Negative! It was a fresh take on the villain, and honestly, because the show isn’t as widely watched, I almost missed that it was the Saturday Night Live guy doing the voice. It was a fun surprise!
Okay, so Mister Negative – that’s Martin Li – is a pretty big deal in the Marvel universe. What’s really cool (and kinda messed up) about him is that his whole dual personality thing is his power. He uses this ‘negative energy’ to mess with heroes when they fight him. But here’s the twist: he also pretends to be a good guy, a philanthropist, and has ties to the criminal underworld in New York. I was actually surprised to see him show up in the Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur cartoon last year, but it felt like Disney didn’t really push that appearance much. It was a cool cameo, though!
The Disney+ series Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur is based on the Marvel comic books of the same name. It follows Lunella Lafayette, a young genius who teams up with a giant red dinosaur named Devil Dinosaur to defend New York City from villains like Mister Negative. The show concluded its two-season run in March 2025 but is still available to watch on Disney+.
