Brand New Shared Universe Competing With Marvel and DC Launches New Series

Summit Comics is introducing a new shared universe, starting with the oversized anthology comic, Summit: Pinnacle. This special issue will feature over a dozen stories and serves as the official launch of the Summit Comics universe. Earlier this month, they also released Trench, a comic created by writer Devin Arscott, artist and colorist Nicolò Arcuti, and letterer Adam Barnhardt.

The crowdfunding campaign for Summit: Pinnacle has been a huge success! Summit Comics has already raised more than twice the amount they originally asked for, and there’s still time to contribute. Head over to their page and make a pledge before the campaign ends!

What is Summit Presents?

The new comic series, Summit Presents, is similar in style to older Marvel Two-in-One issues. It will begin with a main story focused on Juna Marris, the strongest superpowered individual in the Summit Comics Universe, and a secondary story featuring the character Killstrike. Karla Medrano will write the Juna Marris story, with art by Marcus Jimenez. Jimenez will both write and illustrate the Killstrike story, which will appear in the first two issues of Summit Presents.

The story of Juna Marris, which first appeared in issues #1-3 of Summit Presents, will be published as a standalone one-shot comic in 2027. In a statement released by Summit Comics, writer Medrano expressed her enthusiasm for the project, saying, “It’s an honor to work alongside such a talented and important creative team. Summit Comics is doing something many publishers don’t – giving a Black woman the opportunity to write a story about a Black woman.”

She explained that our lives have a richness and authenticity that can’t be faked. Everything we do – from how we cook to how we sing, even how we mourn – is connected to our past and our ancestors. She noted that this has been extensively studied and analyzed. She then highlighted the significance of Juna, stating she’s more than just a beloved fictional character; she’s one of the few Black female characters from major publishers who will have her own long-running story – a truly remarkable achievement.

Jimenez shared his excitement about drawing Juna, explaining it fulfilled a long-held ambition. He’s always wanted to draw Superman, the character who sparked his passion for comics, and sees Juna as the next best thing. Being chosen to illustrate both her debut and her first story as a Summit Partner is a dream come true for him.

Jimenez explained that Killstrike was inspired by the 90s trend that created characters like Cable, though he wasn’t a fan of Cable himself. He wanted to explore that same concept from a fresh perspective, drawing on a wide range of influences. While developing Killstrike, he found inspiration in Captain America, the character Darrow from Red Rising, and the experiences of Hispanic youth he knew growing up, ultimately seeing the character as a tribute to all of them.

Killstrike will be featured in the first two issues of Summit Presents. The third issue will serve as a special preview for Summit Comics’ major upcoming event, and it will be handled in a unique way!

What is special about the first major Summit Comics event?

Summit Comics is planning its major story events to unfold within a single issue of its main anthology series, Summit: Pinnacle. The first of these events, called The Black Assembly, will be featured in Summit: Pinnacle #2, scheduled for release in 2027.

Summit Comics announced details of an upcoming event in a press release. The story will bring together all the heroes of the Summit Universe, teaming them up with Juna Marris as she fights against the Black Assembly, who guard the mysterious Ashlo’thar.

Adam Barnhardt, Summit’s chief creative officer, will oversee the entire event as its “showrunner.” The second installment of Summit: Pinnacle (titled Summit: Pinnacle – The Black Assembly) will feature at least ten connected storylines. Barnhardt explains that a recurring threat, “The Ashlo’thar,” appears throughout Summit’s first year of stories in unexpected ways. The Black Assembly focuses on confronting and eliminating this overarching problem.

Summit Comics has exciting plans for the future, and you can be part of it from the start by supporting their crowdfunding campaign!
