Breaking Bad Star Addresses Reuniting With Creator for Apple’s Returning Sci-Fi Masterpiece

Vince Gilligan, the creator of Better Call Saul, teamed up again with star Rhea Seehorn for Apple’s new sci-fi series, Pluribus. Though different from his previous hits Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, Pluribus showcases Gilligan’s talent for captivating storytelling and building immersive worlds. The acting is a major highlight, with Seehorn receiving widespread praise for her performance in the first season. Her continued success working with Gilligan has sparked speculation among fans about whether other actors from the Breaking Bad universe might join the cast of Pluribus.

While at the Saturn Awards, Bob Odenkirk, star of Better Call Saul, jokingly discussed the idea of appearing in Pluribus. He said he’d love to make a cameo, but believes it would ruin the show’s unique atmosphere. He playfully suggested he could even disguise himself with prosthetics and a wig.

Will Bob Odenkirk Ever Appear on Pluribus?

Considering their past work together, it’s likely Gilligan would welcome another collaboration with Odenkirk. However, Odenkirk is right to question appearing in Pluribus. His presence in Season 2 could feel like a forced and attention-grabbing casting choice. Seeing him act alongside Seehorn might remind viewers too strongly of Better Call Saul, pulling them out of the new show. While Odenkirk would undoubtedly give a strong performance, it would be difficult for audiences to ignore the connection to Jimmy McGill and Kim Wexler.

Vince Gilligan, the creator of both Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad, doesn’t usually rely on simply pleasing fans with cameos or references. Better Call Saul successfully brought back characters and elements from Breaking Bad, but it did so in a way that felt natural to the story and allowed the show to be great on its own. While it would be enjoyable to see Bob Odenkirk and Gilligan collaborate again, he won’t cast someone just for a nostalgic moment. Gilligan likely wants his new show, Pluribus, to stand on its own too, meaning he’ll avoid easy, fan-pleasing choices.

It’s possible Bob Odenkirk could take on a new role that feels organic, but some viewers might still see him as Saul Goodman, particularly if he appears alongside Rhea Seehorn. The only way both Odenkirk and Vince Gilligan might approve this is if the role involved a complete physical transformation – something so drastic that even dedicated fans wouldn’t recognize him without looking it up. This approach would allow Odenkirk to appear in a new capacity without disrupting the established world of the show.

The team behind Gilligan & Co. is known for carefully planning every aspect of their shows before they start filming. The release date for Pluribus Season 2 is uncertain because the writers are taking the time to perfect the scripts. Based on their past work, they aren’t focused on adding cameos from actors like Bob Odenkirk or Bryan Cranston just for the sake of it. They prioritize what’s best for the story, so Odenkirk will only appear if his character is essential to the plot.
