Brendan Fraser is enjoying a major career resurgence. After a powerful performance in The Whale earned him an Oscar, and roles in films like Killers of the Flower Moon and the popular Rental Family, he’s set to return to one of his most famous franchises: The Mummy. Recent reports indicate Fraser will reunite with Rachel Weisz in a new Mummy movie, to be directed by the filmmaking team Radio Silence. Fraser has now spoken about his upcoming return to the series, exciting fans who are eager for more details.
In an interview with IndieWire, Brendan Fraser addressed reports about a potential new Mummy film. He described the articles in Variety and other trade publications as speculation, but hinted that the rumors are true. “If I could talk about it, I’d confirm what everyone already suspects,” Fraser said, remaining tight-lipped. He did express optimism, noting the strong fan interest in a sequel.
Now Is the Perfect Time for a Mummy Revival

The announcement of a fourth Mummy movie with Brendan Fraser generated a lot of excitement, and for good reason. The original Mummy films are still incredibly popular with audiences of all ages. Plus, timing the revival with Fraser’s recent career comeback is a smart move for Universal, letting them take advantage of his renewed popularity. Finally, directors Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett seem like a perfect fit for The Mummy 4, as they’ve proven they can successfully revitalize established franchises with their work on the Scream movies.
A new Mummy movie could be a welcome addition to the action-adventure genre. The original Mummy films with Brendan Fraser were often compared to Indiana Jones, but that series seems to be paused after the recent Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny didn’t perform well at the box office. While the Uncharted video game adaptation attempted to fill the gap, a sequel is stalled, and with Tom Holland busy with Spider-Man, it’s unclear when Uncharted 2 will happen. This gives The Mummy a great chance to become the leading franchise in this type of movie. If a fourth Mummy film does well, it’s likely that more sequels would be made.
As a big fan of The Mummy movies, I saw some chatter online about Brendan Fraser’s recent comments, and I get why people might be a little worried he didn’t outright say The Mummy 4 is happening. But honestly, this is pretty typical for how things work in Hollywood. When the trades reported he and Rachel Weisz were “in talks,” that usually means nothing’s finalized yet – no signatures on contracts. So Fraser has to play it cool and say things like “hopeful” – he can’t confirm anything until it’s a done deal! The fact that it’s even being reported means it’s very close to happening, but there’s always a small chance things could fall apart at the last minute, which is just the nature of the business.
Despite some concerns, The Mummy 4 still seems likely to happen. Universal has most of the necessary elements in place and is now finalizing the remaining details. Hopefully, the movie will come together soon. With directors and stars potentially involved, Universal may prioritize the project and move forward with production quickly.
