Brendan Greene, AKA PUBG’s “PlayerUnknown,” is Set to Release Prologue: Go Wayback! on November 20

Okay, so PlayerUnknown – that’s Brendan Greene, the guy who made PUBG – is dropping a new game called Prologue: Go Wayback! into early access on November 20th. I’m really curious to see what he’s been working on!

This marks his first game since departing from PUBG and establishing his own company, PlayerUnknown Productions.

However, unlike PUBG, this new game is not what you’d expect from the developer.

So, ‘Prologue: Go Wayback!’ isn’t about fighting at all, which was a surprise! It’s all about just trying to survive – wandering through forests and dealing with tough weather. It’s a really different experience focusing on the survival aspect.

The best part of this new game is that each level is uniquely created every time you play, meaning you’ll never have the same experience twice. Everything that happens in the game, from events to challenges, is also randomly generated, keeping things fresh and unpredictable!

In Prologue: Go Wayback!, players journey across diverse landscapes and brave challenging weather as they search for the weather tower.

You’ll need to become skilled at orienteering, which means using maps and a compass to find your way through difficult, outdoor environments, often in bad weather.

As a survival game, you’ll also need to keep an eye on your character’s hunger, thirst, and temperature. If you let any of these drop too low, you’ll die.

The game has a lot of interconnected features, and even more are planned for release during its early access period.

A Brutal Survival Game in a Procedurally Generated World

Unlike many survival games, Prologue: Go Wayback! keeps the core survival elements simple. Despite this, it’s still a very challenging and difficult game.

The map features cabins you can use for shelter, but the world outside is generally difficult and unforgiving.

The game doesn’t offer much guidance as you attempt to reach the weather tower, and because the maps are randomly created each time, chance can significantly impact your progress.

You might be able to spot the weather tower in the distance, but if you can’t, you’ll need to search a little longer.

A few months ago, in an interview with PC Gamer, Greene predicted that many players wouldn’t enjoy the game.

It’s fine if this sparks some discussion – that’s really my intention. People didn’t immediately understand Battle Royale, but eventually they did, and I believe the same will happen here. Ultimately, we’re aiming to build huge, immersive worlds for everyone to enjoy.

That’s not surprising. The game is very challenging, even for the developers at PlayerUnknown Productions, who are struggling with it during initial testing.

According to them, it took around an hour and a half to reach the weather tower on average.

Despite careful planning and good fortune, setbacks are inevitable. Players will sometimes fail during a playthrough, and occasionally, they might quit before finishing.

The game features a huge world, and many unexpected events could ruin a promising beginning, which will likely discourage some players. Check out their new trailer here:
