Various talented actors have taken on the role of Thomas Harris’s infamous cannibalistic doctor, Dr. Hannibal Lecter; noteworthy performances include Anthony Hopkins in three films spanning from 1991 to 2002 and Mads Mikkelsen in a television series that ran from 2013 to 2015.
However, it was Brian Cox, a multiple Emmy award winner, who initially portrayed the character on screen in the 1986 cult favorite film Manhunter, even though he was known as “Hannibal Lecktor” at that time.
In my view, when the movie adaption of Harris’s “Red Dragon” first came out, it received a mix of positive and negative feedback. However, after Anthony Hopkins delivered his captivating performance in “The Silence of the Lambs” in 1991, there was renewed interest in this film, and it began to receive more favorable reviews and reevaluation from critics.
Cox, in a recent event, looked back at his portrayal of Lecter/Lecktor during an exclusive unveiling of 007: Road to a Million season 2, which was co-hosted by Prime Video and TopMob. Notably, he is set to reappear in the role of the malevolent Controller within the Prime Video series.
“It’s a wonderful film,” he said of Manhunter.

Cox continued: “I play the guy as I think he really is.
As a spectator, I must admit, Hopkins truly excelled in his performance. He not only managed to amass a significant amount of wealth but also earned an Oscar for his role as Best Actor. Frankly, it’s hard to find fault with such achievements.
After his successful portrayal of Dr. Hannibal Lecter in The Silence of the Lambs, which earned him an award, he went on to reprise his role in the 2001 film Hannibal and a second adaptation of Red Dragon for the screen in 2002.
Or:
Following his acclaimed performance as Dr. Hannibal Lecter in The Silence of the Lambs, which was award-winning, he made two more appearances as Lecter in the 2001 film Hannibal and a second screen adaptation of Red Dragon in 2002.
Or:
After winning an award for his performance in The Silence of the Lambs, Hopkins reprised his role as Dr. Hannibal Lecter in the 2001 movie Hannibal and another film adaptation of Red Dragon for screens in 2002.
In the newest venture, Cox is involved with a reality competition show called “007: Road to a Million,” which airs on Prime Video. This series features his character presenting various challenges inspired by James Bond, and the winner stands to receive a substantial monetary reward.

Cox recently shared his views with TopMob regarding the upcoming Bond movies and suggested potential candidates to replace Daniel Craig as the character in future film adaptations.
The speaker mentioned that there’s a lot of opportunity for reinventing the Bond character and making him relevant for modern times. He then inquired if Cillian Murphy might be a good fit for this role, finding it intriguing. He expressed his fondness for Murphy, saying he is genuine and free of pretension.
