With Bridgerton Season 4 finished, everyone is looking ahead to what’s next, especially after the big reveal at the end of Benedict and Sophie’s fairytale romance. Netflix has already committed to eight seasons, based on Julia Quinn’s eight novels, meaning we’re still only halfway through the story. Now it’s confirmed: there will be more seasons to come.
Netflix has already renewed Bridgerton for seasons 5 and 6, set to release in 2025. Now that Benedict’s storyline has concluded, fans are eager to find out which Bridgerton sibling will be the focus of the next two seasons. While the dramatic ending of season 4 and the source novels offer clues, the show is known to deviate from the books. Please be warned: this article contains spoilers for both Bridgerton Season 4, Part 2, and the Bridgerton novels.
Which Bridgerton Child Will Be The Lead in Season 5

As a big fan of Bridgerton, I’m really excited about the possibility of Eloise taking center stage in Season 5! The show has already shaken things up by changing the book order, and if they return to it, Eloise is next in line. Honestly, it’s a bit surprising, because Eloise hasn’t seemed interested in romance at all – even her mom trying to push her hasn’t worked! She’s always seemed happy with the idea of staying single. But, the little scene after the credits in Season 4 hinted that maybe she does have a soft spot for weddings. And now that she’s not being paired with Benedict as one of the family members destined to never marry, it feels like they’re setting things up for her to finally find love. I’m definitely curious to see how it plays out!
In the novels, Eloise marries Sir Philip Crane, who was previously married to Marina Thompson, a character from the first season of Bridgerton. It’s unclear if this will happen the same way in the show, especially since Marina is still likely alive and Sir Philip hasn’t appeared yet. However, as we saw with Benedict, falling in love can be a powerful force for change.
Another strong possibility is Francesca, whose novel features her finding love with Michael, John’s cousin, after his death. The Bridgerton series has changed this storyline, using Michaela instead of Michael. While this version of the Regency era is more modern in some ways, same-sex relationships are still not allowed. We can expect to see Francesca and Michaela develop a romantic connection, as hinted at previously, but it will likely differ significantly from the original book.
How Bridgerton Season 4 Sets up Season 5

Beyond Eloise’s subtle clues and the developing, secret relationship between Michaela and Francesca, Season 4 of Bridgerton introduces a new puzzle: the identity of the new Whistledown. With Penelope stepping down to write novels, someone else has taken over as the gossip columnist, promising to bring back the excitement. This is a welcome development that could restore some of the suspense lost when Penelope’s identity was revealed. It also gives Penelope a more engaging storyline than her recent conflicts with the Queen. And now, the Queen has a new rival to spar with.
While Eloise might be the central focus of Season 5, we can expect to see continuing consequences from both John’s death and Michaela leaving. We’ll probably also see how Violet handles the end of her relationship with Lord Anderson – hopefully, it won’t be a quickly forgotten storyline. Plus, Hyacinth will likely continue preparing for her debut, and Gregory might finally have a more significant role to play – it’s about time, considering he hasn’t had much to do yet.
Will Any Other Main Characters Return?

Let’s be clear: Daphne and Simon won’t be returning for another season. Their absence from a recent funeral – especially considering the circumstances – suggests there’s little that could bring them back, unless the show writers decide to kill off Simon. Similarly, Anthony and Kate were also missing from the same event, which was strange given they were nearby when John passed away, and Jonathan Bailey’s busy work schedule could make it difficult for him to return in Season 5. However, Anthony is the head of the family and can’t be absent indefinitely, so either a clever plot device is needed to bring him back, or he’ll remain gone. As it stands, neither option seems probable.
Colin and Penelope will likely be back for another season, as the latest gossip from Whistledown puts Penelope at the center of the story again, even though Colin wasn’t a major focus last season. Benedict and Sophie’s return is less certain. The show might need to shift focus to new characters, and Benedict’s location makes that easier, but they remain popular, so it’s still unclear what will happen with them.
When Could Bridgerton Season 5 Release Date Be?

Based on how long each season of Bridgerton has taken to produce, Season 5 might arrive by the end of 2027, though there’s no firm date yet. Previous gaps between seasons have ranged from about 15 to 26 months. If that pattern continues, we could potentially see the new season as early as April 2027, or as late as March 2028. Hopefully, it will be closer to April! A new spin-off series could help fill the wait, but it’s surprising we haven’t heard about one yet.
As a huge fan, I’m so relieved to hear that the writers are already at work on Bridgerton Season 5! Shonda Rhimes let us know a while back that we’re getting a full eight seasons, which is amazing, and it’s good to see things are officially moving forward. It means we’ll be back in that world sooner rather than later!
Shonda Rhimes has confirmed that Bridgerton could run for a total of eight seasons, and work on Season 5 is already underway with the writers.
