Bridgerton star defends Lady Araminta – and why fans should empathise with her

Okay, Bridgerton is back, and this season throws a fascinating new family into the mix! We’re really diving into the romance between Benedict and Sophie, but honestly, the character who’s really grabbed my attention is Lady Araminta Gun. She’s the matriarch of this new family, and let me tell you, she’s powerful… and not afraid to use it. She’s definitely a force to be reckoned with – and often a pretty harsh one, too!

Katie Leung, known for her roles in Harry Potter and Annika, plays a complex character named Araminta. A twice-married and widowed woman, Araminta is focused on successfully launching her daughters, Rosamund (Michelle Mao) and Posy (Isabella Wei), into society this season. She’s also portrayed as someone who is stylish, has excellent taste, and isn’t afraid to speak her mind.

Araminta is definitely set to do her own thing in society this season and doesn’t seem to worry about what anyone else thinks.

Araminta is sure to be a controversial character for Bridgerton fans, as she plays a bit of a villain. But what does the actress want viewers to know about her motivations and personality?

She’s understandably become very guarded, both for herself and her daughters, and is focused on simply getting through things. To reach her goals, she feels she needs to be tough and relentlessly driven.

Leung explains that while the mother deeply loves her daughters, she doesn’t express it through traditional displays of affection, unlike someone like Violet. He believes this stems from financial insecurity and a lack of stability in her life.

It’s simple to suggest showing affection and gratitude to family, but it’s a luxury. The Bridgerton family can easily afford to prioritize those things, unlike Araminta, who faces financial hardship. We should therefore be much more understanding of her situation.

This season’s storyline centers around Benedict Bridgerton and Sophie, who have a brief encounter at a masquerade ball hosted by Lady Violet. They don’t meet again after that night. This plot is adapted from the third book in the Bridgerton series, ‘An Offer from a Gentleman,’ which primarily follows Benedict’s journey.

As the series progresses, we learn more about Sophie’s past, including her job as a maid for Lady Araminta. It’s unclear how this relationship will develop or what it means for Sophie’s future, so viewers will have to keep watching to find out.
