The third season of Bridgerton ended with a sweet love story for Colin and Penelope, but it also left viewers wondering what would happen with Francesca as her storyline reached a suspenseful turning point.
Although she recently married Lord John Stirling, Francesca quickly developed a connection with John’s cousin, Michaela, after they met.
After their encounter in season 3, fans have been eagerly speculating about what’s next, and now that Francesca will be a lead in a future season, many are curious to see how her relationship with Michaela develops.
Hannah Dodd, who plays Francesca, hinted at what’s coming in season 4: Michaela will push Francesca to confront things, while John will support her growth. Both characters will be key to her development.

Dodd believes Francesca is held back by both societal expectations and the rules she sets for herself. Michaela, on the other hand, doesn’t worry about those things. Dodd sees this contrast as the core of their relationship – it’s that difference in how they approach life that defines their dynamic, and it’s something we often see in real life when we encounter people who seem unburdened by such concerns.
Francesca is experiencing something new and difficult, and she’s trying to understand those challenging emotions.
For those familiar with the Julia Quinn books that inspired the show, you’ll notice a change: the character Michaela is now a woman. In the novels, Lord Stirling passes away and Francesca develops a romantic connection with Michaela. However, how these events will unfold on screen remains to be seen.
Dodd updated us on Francesca, saying she recently returned from a trip to Scotland with Eloise. It seems like something happened during the trip, but the details are still unclear.
She and John are very focused on each other right now, but their relationship is still new. They haven’t known each other for very long, and both of them still have a lot of personal growth to do. They need to come out of their shells a bit to truly grow together as a couple.
This season, the story centers on Benedict and Sophie, and their romance will give viewers a glimpse into the lives of people from all social classes within the world of Bridgerton, including those who work in the grand homes we see on screen.
At his mother’s masquerade ball, Benedict becomes captivated by a mysterious woman dressed in silver and begins searching for her within society. However, he soon discovers the woman he desires isn’t a member of the elite – she’s Sophie, a clever and capable maid working for the imposing Lady Araminta Gun (Katie Leung), as described by the show.
