Even though it came out in 2023, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story is still a beloved spin-off of the popular Bridgerton series. The show explored the remarkable story of Queen Charlotte (played by Golda Rosheuvel), including her passionate romance with King George, and proved to be a big success.
Although there are no current plans to continue the ‘Queen Charlotte’ spin-off, fans still fondly remember and appreciate the series.
I have to say, this new season really delivers! We get a much deeper look into the formative years of not just the Queen, but also two incredibly compelling characters, Lady Danbury and Lady Violet. It’s fascinating to see what shaped them into the women we know and love, and it adds a whole new layer to the story.
Bridgerton season 4 will likely include a nice reference to the show Queen Charlotte, which fans are sure to enjoy!

It’s a small detail, but observant viewers will notice Lady Danbury walking with someone through the Queen’s palace and pausing to look at one of the large paintings in the hallway.
Upon closer inspection, the painting reveals itself to be a portrait of a young Queen Charlotte and Lady Danbury. Lady Danbury pauses to admire it, and the Queen glances back, questioning, “Agatha?” but says nothing further, simply smiling and continuing on her way.
It’s amazing to look back and appreciate how deeply we understood those characters and their friendships, especially seeing their honest and vulnerable sides in that spin-off. That show was a true gem, a brilliant addition to the world Shonda created.
She continued, explaining how she enjoys wondering about people’s childhoods – imagining what they were like as 12-year-olds. She felt it’s a universal experience and was glad the show captured that feeling of curiosity.
The beginning of season 4 sees some tension between the Queen and Lady Danbury. Despite a long-standing friendship and mutual respect, the Queen was clearly bothered when Lady Danbury announced her plans to withdraw from London society.
Golda Rosheuvel, who plays the Queen, explained that this development has been a complete surprise. She believes the Queen had been comfortably moving forward, unaware of what was coming.
Danbury’s request makes the Queen realize she’s been complacent and, thanks to Whistledown’s commentary, that she’s essentially trapped. She’s isolated within her own world and unable to experience the freedom Danbury is seeking.
