Britney Spears Arrested for DUI in California

Britney Spears is facing some legal trouble.

Police records obtained by TopMob News show that the singer of “Circus” was arrested around 9 p.m. local time on March 4th. She was released the next morning.

Britney is scheduled to appear in court on May 4th at 8:15 a.m. local time to deal with charges related to her recent arrest. According to reports from TMZ, citing law enforcement, she was arrested for driving under the influence.

TopMob News has contacted Britney’s representatives and the police department for comment on her arrest, but they haven’t responded yet.

Britney’s recent arrest follows a month after she publicly discussed the emotional toll her difficult relationship with her family is taking on her.

In a recent Instagram post, Britney Spears shared her feelings about the importance of human connection. She wrote that everyone simply wants to feel loved and avoid loneliness. Addressing those who have isolated or excluded her, she stated they were mistaken, and while forgiveness is possible, some things are never forgotten. She emphasized that the need for connection is fundamental to being human.

Britney Spears, who was under a court-ordered conservatorship controlled by her father, Jamie Spears, for almost 14 years before it ended in 2021, has spoken about the difficult experiences she had with her family. She said she feels fortunate to still be alive considering how she was treated, and now she’s afraid of them.

As a longtime fan, it really wasn’t surprising to see Britney open up about her family again. She’s been so brave in sharing her story, and it’s heartbreaking to remember everything she went through. I remember reading her memoir, The Woman in Me, last year, and she talked so honestly about how her dad controlled nearly every aspect of her life during the conservatorship. It’s especially tough knowing this impacted her relationship with her sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James, who she shares with Kevin Federline. She’s really been through so much, and I admire her strength in speaking out.

It was also incredibly difficult for her to have every aspect of her life – even things she couldn’t change – examined so closely.

She explained that while she appreciated her friends’ good intentions, she was upset they talked to filmmakers about her without speaking to her directly. She also noted there was a lot of speculation about her feelings and opinions, which was frustrating.

In 2021, after becoming independent from her family, Britney shared that she was still learning to navigate life on her own, and that it wasn’t always easy.

She explained that freedom, to her, meant embracing her imperfections, just like everyone else. It also meant having the ability and the right to find happiness however she chooses, and on her own schedule.

Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake first met as children while performing together on Disney Channel’s The Mickey Mouse Club in the early 1990s. Other cast members at the time included Christina Aguilera, Keri Russell, Ryan Gosling, and Tony Lucca.

Oh my gosh, you guys, can you even imagine? It wasn’t instant, it took a little while, but Britney says she and Justin first fell for each other when she was touring with NSYNC! And get this – their first kiss? It happened during a sleepover with the whole cast, playing Truth or Dare…and the ultimate irony? A Janet Jackson song was playing in the background! I seriously can’t even with the perfection of that story. It’s like it was meant to be!

In her memoir, Britney Spears recounts a particularly painful experience from her relationship with Justin Timberlake: a medical abortion. She explains that Justin felt they were too young to have a child. She describes undergoing the procedure at home, recalling Justin being with her, playing guitar while she went through what she calls an incredibly agonizing experience.

She’s still questioning whether she did the right thing. She admitted that if it were her decision alone, she wouldn’t have gone through with it, but Justin was adamant about not wanting to be a father.

TopMob News reached out to Justin’s rep and did not immediately hear back.

With headlines focusing on stories about Justin Timberlake in Britney Spears’ new book, sources say the 42-year-old is back in the studio recording music. He and his wife, Jessica Biel, are also doing well and staying busy with their sons, 8-year-old Silas and 2-year-old Phineas.

Britney feels Justin ended their relationship very casually, like many celebrities do – with a quick, thoughtless dismissal.

She was so “devastated,” she recalls, she “could barely speak for months.”

After the breakup, Britney returned to her hometown of Kentwood, Louisiana, to heal. Justin flew to Louisiana and personally gave her a framed letter, which famously ended with the line, “I can’t breathe without you.”

Britney reflects on the aftermath of her breakup with Justin, referencing the accusations in his “Cry Me a River” video that she was unfaithful. She describes feeling numb and lost in Louisiana while he seemed to be thriving in Hollywood.

Oh my god, it still kills me to think about it! It was November 2003, and she had to do that interview with Diane Sawyer. Her dad and manager set it all up, but it was a disaster. Diane just relentlessly questioned her about how much she supposedly hurt Justin – they really tried to paint it like that interview was the moment she completely fell apart. It’s just… heartbreaking to watch, honestly. They really came at her hard!

“I felt like I had been exploited,” she writes, “set up in front of the whole world.”

Britney has confirmed long-standing rumors that she kissed dancer and choreographer Wade Robson at a bar while she was in a relationship with Justin Timberlake. However, she believes the speculation that Justin was unfaithful led her to seek comfort elsewhere.

Otherwise, she writes, she was faithful to Justin.

Britney claims that despite appearances of partying with Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, and others, she wasn’t struggling with alcohol. Instead, she says she misused her ADHD medication, Adderall, to briefly feel better about depression.

Twenty years ago, it was widely known that Britney Spears and Colin Farrell were involved, and she’s described their brief relationship as very passionate.

Britney describes the experience as a full-on “brawl,” explaining that everyone was intensely and passionately entangled, almost like a street fight.

She later admitted she still had feelings for Justin when she went to the premiere of The Recruit with Colin on January 28, 2003. Colin told reporters they were simply friends, describing her as a “very sweet girl,” but clarified they weren’t dating.

In her memoir, The Woman in Me, Britney Spears shares that she briefly hoped for a real connection, but her romantic setbacks contributed to a growing sense of isolation and constant awkwardness.

TopMob News has reached out to Colin’s rep for comment but did not hear back.

Britney admits she was bored and heavily intoxicated when she and her longtime friend, Jason Alexander, spontaneously got married in Las Vegas in January 2004. However, the marriage was quickly canceled just 55 hours later.

She was surprised by her family’s overreaction—it felt like a huge deal, as if she’d caused a major conflict—but she thought it was all harmless fun.

I was so upset to hear about Jason’s arrest! Apparently, he trespassed on Britney’s wedding day – the one where she married Sam Asghari at her home on June 9th, 2022 – and he didn’t even fight the charges, just pleaded no contest. It was a really special day for her, and it’s awful someone would try to disrupt it like that.

In February 2007, Britney Spears shocked the world when she shaved her head at a salon near Los Angeles. This dramatic act was a reaction to years of being constantly judged and treated like an object, something she’d experienced ever since becoming famous as a teenager. She’s mentioned that around the time her album Oops…I Did It Again became a huge success, she started taking Prozac to cope with the intense public attention.

She explains that since her teenage years, she’d constantly been judged on her appearance and subjected to unwanted comments about her body. Shaving her head and rebelling were her reactions to this scrutiny – ways of taking control and resisting those judgments.

She was deeply heartbroken while fighting with her ex-husband, Kevin Federline, for custody of their sons, Sean and Jayden, who are now 18 and 17.

Looking back on those difficult weeks after her children, she admits she repeatedly fell apart and didn’t know how to cope. She famously hit a photographer’s car with an umbrella – a moment made even more dramatic by her fresh haircut – and remembers her thinking becoming increasingly immature as she struggled with severe postpartum depression and a divorce.

Kevin was later granted sole physical custody of their kids on Oct. 1, 2007.

Britney Spears was placed under a conservatorship on February 1, 2008. It began after a period of personal difficulties, including two involuntary psychiatric holds in January of that year, and continued without a set end date.

Britney Spears has said she pleaded with the court to have anyone but her father, Jamie Spears, control her conservatorship. Andrew Wallet served as a co-conservator alongside Jamie until March 2019.

She decided to stop trying to get out of her legal obligations quickly because she wanted to see her children again as soon as she could.

She says she happily traded personal freedom for the chance to spend quiet time with her kids. Her children are the most important thing in her life, and she would do anything for them.

Britney felt it was illogical that she wasn’t allowed to choose her own romantic partners while still being considered capable of working – appearing on TV shows, performing in front of large audiences, and even touring internationally on a weekly basis.

You know, reading Britney’s words just broke my heart. She actually started to believe her dad saw her – her – like she wasn’t a person at all, but just… a way to make money. Like her whole purpose in life was to keep the cash coming in for them. It’s just… devastating to think about. Seriously, it makes me so angry for her!

She claims she wasn’t permitted to adjust her performance lineup, even when she requested to do so, during her very popular Las Vegas show at Planet Hollywood.

She explains that music was everything to her, but the conservatorship nearly destroyed her passion and left her feeling broken.

Jamie previously served as Britney’s co-conservator, but took a break in 2019 due to health problems and fully resigned in September 2021. He has repeatedly said he always believed his actions were aimed at protecting Britney’s well-being.

Britney describes how every aspect of her life, from her prescribed medications to her iPhone settings, was closely examined and rigidly controlled.

She claims her father’s criticism of her weight was particularly painful. “It stung more coming from him than from the press,” she writes, explaining that he often told her she looked overweight and needed to change.

As a longtime fan, it always broke my heart that Britney stayed so quiet about what was happening in her life for those thirteen years under the conservatorship. But I recently learned she says she did try to speak up about it once – just once. It’s incredibly sad to think about how stifled she was, even trying to share her story felt like such a huge ask.

She recalls bringing up the conservatorship during a 2016 talk show appearance, but that portion of the interview was never broadcast, which she finds odd.

Britney describes being forced into rehab in early 2019, writing that her father threatened court and public embarrassment if she refused. She says she was prescribed lithium and held there for months against her wishes.

She explained that she was severely restricted in what she could do. She couldn’t leave the house, drive, or even have a private bath or a moment of privacy in her own room. She also had to donate blood every week.

According to her own messages, Britney texted her sister, Jamie Lynn Spears, asking for help while at the facility. Jamie Lynn reportedly responded by telling her to accept the situation, saying, “Stop fighting it. There’s nothing you can do about it, so stop fighting it.”

Britney was deeply hurt, explaining that she couldn’t understand how close her sister, Jamie Lynn, and their father had become. She felt abandoned because Jamie Lynn knew she was asking for support but didn’t seem to defend her.

In early 2022 the siblings publicly sparred over Jamie Lynn’s memoir, Things I Should Have Said.

Britney writes that Jamie Lynn publicly shared damaging and untrue stories about her. Despite this, she says she still loves her sister and is trying to replace her anger with compassion, not just towards Jamie Lynn, but towards everyone who has hurt her – a process she admits isn’t easy.

TopMob News contacted Jamie Lynn for a statement. In a 2022 interview on TopMob’s Daily Pop, she explained that while she and Britney have their disagreements, they ultimately share love and support for each other.

Britney discovered the #FreeBritney movement while in rehab in 2019. A nurse showed her videos on YouTube that revealed fans were actively campaigning for her freedom.

Britney followed the growing public debate about her conservatorship as time passed.

Watching the documentaries made about my life was difficult,” she explained. “I know everyone involved had good intentions, but I was upset that some former friends talked to the filmmakers without speaking to me beforehand. It felt like a lot of assumptions were made about my thoughts and feelings.

Britney remembers feeling a huge sense of relief when Jamie was removed as her co-conservator in September 2021. She explains that the man who had frightened her throughout her life and controlled her as an adult – and who had deeply damaged her self-esteem – was finally no longer in charge.

On November 12, 2021, while at a resort in Tahiti, she received a call from her lawyer with the news that the court had completely ended her conservatorship.

Britney enjoys the freedom to share anything she likes on social media, and sometimes that includes tastefully revealing photos.

She understands that some people don’t get why she enjoys taking self-portraits, whether nude or in different outfits. However, she believes if they had been photographed countless times by others, always being directed and posed for someone else’s satisfaction, they’d realize how empowering it is for her to pose as she pleases and control the images herself, doing exactly what makes her feel good.

As a longtime fan, it breaks my heart to hear Britney describe the lasting effects of the conservatorship. She’s shared that it caused her both physical and emotional pain, and she’s still dealing with migraines – it’s just awful to think about everything she’s been through.

“I don’t think my family understands the real damage that they did,” she writes.

She truly appreciates her freedom, whether it’s simply taking a break from social media without causing a fuss, or having the space to learn from her own mistakes.

She explains that freedom means she no longer feels pressured to put on a show for anyone, whether in public or in private. It’s about embracing her own imperfections, just like everyone else, and having the power to pursue happiness in a way that feels right for her, on her own schedule and according to her own values.
