The ongoing public drama between Britney Spears and Kevin Federline continues, recently fueled by Federline’s new memoir, You Thought You Knew. In the book, he shared details about their past, which prompted strong reactions from Spears’ fans who rushed to her defense. Many believe the book is harming Spears and straining her relationship with their sons. Now, Federline is responding to those concerns.
Prior to the release of Kevin Federline’s book, Britney Spears hadn’t been close to her two sons, Sean Preston (20) and Jayden James (19). However, recent reports suggest the boys are now trying to rebuild their relationship with her. Federline himself stated on Talk Shop Live that his sons love their mother and want to reconnect, saying he’s always hoped they would have a strong bond. He hasn’t specified whether he and Spears have spoken directly, though.
We haven’t talked specifically, but I know that she’s talked to our sons, which is good.
Before his memoir was officially released, excerpts came out detailing accusations against Britney Spears. Kevin Federline claimed that Spears would sometimes stand in the doorway with a knife while their sons were sleeping. He also alleged she used cocaine while breastfeeding. While Federline believes Spears lost custody because of her lifestyle, he admitted he also partied frequently during that time.
Following the book’s publication, Britney Spears’ representative accused her ex-husband of making money from her story. The criticism quickly spread online, with Spears herself publicly disputing the claims in a post she later removed from X (formerly Twitter). Many fans offered their support, including rapper Nicki Minaj, who directly criticized Federline on the platform. Despite the negative reaction to his comments, Federline maintains that he hasn’t interfered with Spears’ attempts to rebuild her relationship with their sons.
Many people believe this book will make things worse, but we’ve exhausted all other options. We’ve truly tried everything. If it means I have to be seen as the villain so my children can maintain a relationship with their mother, I’m willing to accept that.
Kevin Federline has explained that his decision to write his book wasn’t about the money, but rather a desire to share his side of the story, similar to how Britney Spears did in her 2023 memoir, The Woman in Me. He recently expressed concern for Spears, stating he felt she was heading toward a breaking point. Meanwhile, Spears has publicly acknowledged the difficult time she’s having with recent negative comments made about her.
Given everything that’s happened between Britney Spears and Kevin Federline, it’s unlikely they’ll resolve their issues with a friendly conversation. However, it appears Britney and her sons are at least attempting to reach some sort of understanding.
