A spokesperson for Britney Spears addressed claims made by her former partner in his new book, *You Thought You Knew*. In the book, he discusses worries about Britney and their two sons, Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19.

Jamie previously served as Britney’s co-conservator, but took a break in 2019 due to health problems and fully resigned in September 2021. He has repeatedly said that he always believed his choices were what was best for Britney.

Britney describes how every aspect of her life, from her prescribed medications to the settings on her phone, was closely examined and tightly controlled.

She claims her father’s criticism of her weight was particularly painful. “It stung more coming from him than from the press,” she writes, explaining that he frequently told her she looked overweight and needed to change.

For most of the 13 years Britney was under conservatorship, she didn’t speak about what her life was like. However, she claims she did attempt to share her story on one occasion.

Britney describes being forced into rehab in early 2019. She says her father told her she’d face court and public embarrassment if she didn’t go. Once there, she was prescribed lithium and held for months, feeling she had no choice in the matter.

She explained that she was severely restricted in what she could do. She couldn’t leave the house, drive, or even have simple privacy – she needed weekly blood transfusions and couldn’t even close the door to her own room.

According to her own messages, Britney texted her sister, Jamie Lynn Spears, from the facility, desperately asking for help. Jamie Lynn reportedly replied, telling her to accept the situation and stop struggling, as there was nothing she could do to change it.

Britney felt deeply hurt and betrayed, especially because she couldn’t understand how close her sister, Jamie Lynn, and their father had become. She felt abandoned, as she’d asked Jamie Lynn for support and believed her sister should have been on her side.

Britney writes in her book that Jamie Lynn publicly shared damaging and untrue stories about her. Despite this, she says she still loves her sister and is trying to replace her anger with compassion – not just towards Jamie Lynn, but towards anyone who has hurt her, though she admits it’s a difficult process.

TopMob News contacted Jamie Lynn for a statement. In a 2022 interview on TopMob’s *Daily Pop*, she explained that while she and Britney have their disagreements, they ultimately share love and support for each other.

I remember reading that it was during her time in rehab back in 2019 that Britney first discovered the #FreeBritney movement. Apparently, a nurse showed her some clips people were posting on YouTube, and she was completely surprised to learn so many people cared and were fighting for her freedom. It must have been so impactful for her to realize she wasn’t alone.

Britney followed the growing public debate about her conservatorship as time passed.

She said watching the documentaries about her life was difficult. While she knows everyone involved had good intentions, she was upset that some former friends talked to the filmmakers without speaking to her beforehand. She also felt there was a lot of speculation about her private thoughts and feelings.

Britney remembers feeling a huge sense of relief when Jamie was removed as her co-conservator in September 2021. She explains that the man who had frightened her throughout her life and controlled her as an adult – and who had severely damaged her self-esteem – was finally no longer in charge.

On November 12, 2021, while at a resort in Tahiti, she received a call from her lawyer with the news that the court had officially ended her conservatorship.

Britney enjoys the freedom to share anything she likes on social media, and sometimes that includes tastefully revealing photos of herself.

She understands some people don’t get why she enjoys taking self-portraits, whether nude or in different outfits. However, she believes if they had been photographed countless times by others, constantly directed and posed for other people’s opinions, they would realize how empowering it is for her to pose how *she* feels good and have complete control over the images.

Britney says the conservatorship caused her both physical and emotional harm, and she continues to experience migraines as a result.

“I don’t think my family understands the real damage that they did,” she writes.

She truly values her freedom, whether it’s simply disconnecting from social media without causing a fuss, or having the space to learn and grow from her errors.

She explains that freedom means no longer feeling the need to impress anyone, whether in public or in private. It’s about accepting her own imperfections, just like everyone else, and having the power to find happiness in a way that feels right for her, on her own terms.
