Bryan Cranston Provides Update After His Co-Stars And Crew Members Reportedly Weren’t Fully Paid On His New Movie: ‘That Is Where It Stands Now’

A fresh angle has emerged in the ongoing discussion about Bryan Cranston’s movie, “Lone Wolf,” and its financial woes. Previously, it was disclosed that the production may not have been fully compensating some of its cast and crew. More recently, Cranston himself has addressed the issue, pledging to withhold any future screen appearances until everyone involved receives fair payment.

In an interview with Deadline, Cranston, who co-stars in the conspiracy thriller alongside Lily Gladstone, confirmed that the initial report about “Lone Wolf” was accurate as far as he was aware. Since he’s not a producer on the project, he shared the information he’d received indirectly, saying:

It appears that the funds promised for deposit into the escrow accounts for cast and crew members were not transferred promptly, which led to halts in filming. Later, it seemed that a part of the promised amount was deposited, lifting the “do not work” order, and production resumed.

As a devoted cinephile, I’ve learned that our movie, unfortunately, faces a $2 million deficit for completion. To wrap up filming, we urgently need this amount, as reported by Deadline. Currently, our team is tirelessly working to secure the funds necessary to bring our vision to fruition.

However, due to these financial woes, both the cast and crew have experienced pay delays since the early stages of production. We deeply regret any inconvenience this may cause, and we appreciate your understanding and support during this challenging time.

Consequently, SAG-AFTRA issued a halt order for the project; yet, they resumed work again, as indicated by Cranston’s statement as well.

Subsequently, the actor shared that the production team for the film is making efforts to acquire the necessary funds to bring this project to its conclusion. If they fail to do so, neither he nor Gladstone will be involved in further promotion or completion of the movie. He put it simply, “If we don’t get the funding, neither I nor Gladstone will work on this film.

Currently, there’s a significant push to gather the required funds to complete the film, and I believe it’s highly likely due to two primary factors: First, the remaining few scenes (estimated at more than two shooting days) are crucial to the narrative. Second, neither Lily nor I will take part in promoting this movie until every cast and crew member is fully compensated, and we won’t rejoin filming until that debt is settled. In other words, we won’t be back on set for this film until everyone involved gets their due payments first.

As a cinephile, I can’t help but acknowledge the significant impact of Bryan Cranston and Richard Gladman on the silver screen. With Cranston’s acclaimed performance in “Breaking Bad” and Gladman’s 2024 Oscar nomination, their presence in this upcoming film is undeniably enticing. They are the leading lights, and it’s evident why they would refuse to complete or publicize the movie unless all other cast members are compensated fairly. This assertion holds substantial sway in our current circumstances.

It’s clear from his statement that Cranston is concerned about his fellow actors and crew members receiving fair compensation for their work on the film. He reinforced this concern with further comments, expressing surprise that some of them had not been paid yet, and sharing that the situation has left him feeling troubled.

It’s important to be upfront about this: I received payment for my role in the film before the recent production halt, which left me taken aback when we had to pause again. From what I understand, neither the crew nor the co-stars were compensated for their final two weeks of work. This situation has been upsetting and has caused a lot of mistrust. I’m truly sorry that such an outstanding team didn’t receive the respect they deserved. However, I have faith that the producers will navigate these challenging times justly and we’ll complete the film. Honestly, this whole ordeal is a real mess.

It’s not unusual for independent films to encounter financial problems, but Deadline points out that such issues are “less common” for productions of the magnitude of Lone Wolf. The film has several positive aspects: it’s directed by Mark Pellington and is a thriller about a veteran (Gladston) who is hired by a contractor (Cranston) for a mission to kill a prominent politician. Cranston, Gladstone, O’Shea Jackson Jr., and others are part of the cast.

It’s uncertain if Lone Wolf will make its way onto the 2025 movie schedule due to ongoing financial difficulties. The specifics of how they plan to resolve these issues and fulfill their obligations to the cast and crew remain unclear at this time. We’ll continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as more information becomes available.
