As a lifestyle connoisseur, I find myself shaking my head at the recent controversy surrounding the cast of Made in Chelsea, who seem to have stepped over a line with their filming activities at Buckingham Palace. It appears they’ve disregarded a long-standing rule that prohibits such activities within royal premises.
Jamie Laing and Sophie “Habbs” Habboo, popular British reality personalities, seized the opportunity at the King’s Trust Awards event on June 25, which was also attended by George and Amal Clooney, to join a trend initiated by Meghan Markle, the daughter-in-law of King Charles III.
Recently, Meghan, aged 43, garnered over 50 million views on Instagram with a joyful post celebrating her daughter Princess Lilibet’s birthday. The Duchess of Sussex published a video of the “Baby Mama” dance she did in the hospital just before the child was born.
Laing and Habboo duplicated a popular scene on the grand staircase at Buckingham Palace and shared it through their social media platforms. It appears that Laing understood he was violating a significant palace rule, as he titled the video: “They said we couldn’t film in Buckingham Palace… @sophiehabboo @kingstrust.
Buckingham Palace reacted to the broken rule with a tongue-in-cheek reply: โWe see you ๐๐.โ
At its yearly award ceremony, The King’s Trust – a charity established by Charles in 1976 – playfully reprimanded the couple for their naughty antics.

โAll of our attendees are very well behaved ๐,โ the organization replied to Laing via Instagram.
Historically, The Royal Collection Trust has been quite strict about visitors taking videos inside the Windsor palaces. In essence, they generally do not allow filming or shooting scenes within their official royal homes. Anyone keen on recording footage at these sites is advised to submit an application for a permit beforehand.
In addition to going viral with a video, Habboo also posted an authentic picture from her encounter with Charles as a way to celebrate the event.

She expressed great pleasure and privilege to greet and shake hands with King Charles III ๐ of the United Kingdom, which she shared on her Instagram post on June 26.
On June 3, Laing and Habboo shared the exciting news on BBC Radio 1 that they’re going to welcome their first child into their lives together.
โWeโre having a baby,โ they told their listeners in unison.
Later on, Laing disclosed, “At first, I was engrossed in gaming. It was during the weekend… and you [Habboo] seemed a bit evasive, then you approached me and tears were streaming down your face. I assumed I had caused a major mistake, which is usually the case. You told me, ‘We’re expecting a baby!’
In April 2023, the reality TV couple exchanged vows in a secret ceremony held in London. A month later, they celebrated with a grand wedding reception in Marbella, Spain for their loved ones. (Their paths crossed on the Channel 4 show Made in Chelsea, where Habboo and Sam Thompson, a close friend of Laing’s, had a short-lived romance. The series has chronicled the lives of a group of young socialites from West London since 2011.)
During a chat on Emma Grede’s “Aspire” podcast, which took place on June 17th, Meghan explained that her popular “Baby Mama” dance video resonated unexpectedly due to its portrayal of her and Prince Harry’s genuine, everyday lives.
She clarified that it was about four years back, serving as a powerful reminder that amidst all the commotion and activities, genuine, enjoyable lives continue to unfold unseen.
She continued by expressing her gratitude because now, with her return to social platforms, she has the opportunity to share what she wants, on her own accord.
