Buzz Aldrin is mourning a tragic loss.
Buzz Aldrin’s wife, Dr. Anca Faur Aldrin, passed away on October 28th at the age of 66. The couple had been married for two years. The news was shared by Buzz and his family on social media.
Dr. Anca Aldrin, the wife of astronaut Buzz Aldrin, died peacefully last night surrounded by her husband and son, Vlad Ghenciu, according to a Facebook post from October 29th. A highly accomplished chemical engineer with a Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh, Mrs. Aldrin held positions as treasurer for the California Hydrogen Business Council and Executive Vice President of Buzz Aldrin Ventures LLC.
Ninety-five-year-old Buzz Aldrin also shared a heartfelt message about his wife, saying he felt lucky to have married the love of his life.
“She brought joy to everything we did together,” he continued. “I will miss her dearly.”
The statement added, “Her family requests privacy in their time of mourning.”
Buzz was married three times before meeting his current partner. He and Joan Archer were married from 1954 to 1974, followed by Beverly Van Zile from 1975 to 1978, and then Lois Driggs Cannon from 1988 to 2012. He met Anca at a work event in 2017, and they began dating publicly the next year.
In 2023, the couple got married during a small ceremony on Buzz’s 93rd birthday.

Buzz described their wedding to People magazine in 2024, saying, “It was a beautiful day.” They chose to have a small, private ceremony – just the two of them under the stars.
Buzz Aldrin, the second person to walk on the moon in 1969, shared why he decided to marry Anca. He described her as having everything he admired – intelligence, kindness, and bravery, playfully comparing her to the complete package from The Wizard of Oz.
Anca was a highly accomplished scientist. Her career included nearly 20 years at Johnson Matthey, a London-based company specializing in chemicals and sustainable technologies, as well as work with the California Hydrogen Business Council and Buzz Aldrin Ventures LLC, according to her LinkedIn profile.
You know, when you meet someone truly special, it just clicks. That’s how it is with her and me. We genuinely enjoy everything together – simple things like sharing meals, collaborating on projects, and even just relaxing and watching life unfold. It’s that everyday connection that really makes a relationship thrive, in my opinion.
