The Game Bakers has pushed back the release of their survival climbing game, Cairn, from November 5th to sometime in the first quarter of 2026. Players can expect to find it on PlayStation 5 and PC through Steam.
The difficult choice was made to make sure Cairn is in top shape when it releases, and provides the amazing experience players saw in the demo, according to the announcement. The game’s content is finished, and the extra few months of development will focus on improving performance, fixing bugs, and refining the overall quality. The Game Bakers have always aimed to create games that players will remember fondly, and for Cairn, even with the team’s hard work, a little more time is needed to achieve that.
In a statement, Cairn creative director Emeric Thoa explained that extensive playtesting has shown players are responding very positively to Cairn, suggesting it has real potential. He also noted they recognize there’s still work to be done to make the game truly exceptional. After five years of development, he emphasized they don’t want to release it prematurely, and are committed to launching a game they can be proud of.
Beginning October 13th, the Cairn demo – enjoyed by more than 600,000 players on PlayStation 5 and PC – will receive an update. For a short period, climbers will be able to see ghostly images of other players as they scale the mountain.
