Cairn, the mountaineering survival game, has a release date at last.
It’s coming to PS5 very soon, releasing on 29th January, 2026, as revealed in its latest trailer:
The game is from the team behind Furi and Haven, and is something entirely different yet again.
You play as Aava, a skilled climber, and your mission is to be the first to reach the top of the enormous Kami mountain.
The core gameplay revolves around climbing. You control each of Aava’s limbs individually to carefully scale the wall, searching for secure hand and footholds to avoid slipping and losing energy.
Aava will get hurt, feel tired, and get hungry as she explores. That’s why it’s important to rest after challenging climbs. You can set up a tent, heal injuries, cook simple food, and sleep to recover your strength.
The game also features a narrative, and as Aava climbs, she’ll meet other characters along the way.
We enjoyed playing the game’s demo and found it had a great feel. While other climbing games like Jusant exist, Cairn stands out by aiming for a more realistic and difficult experience, and adding survival elements to the mix.
