Cal Kestis Finally Makes His TV Debut in New Star Wars Show (But Now I Need More)

The Star Wars universe is getting bigger and bigger, thanks to Disney+. Lucasfilm is using the streaming service to tell more complex stories than could ever fit in a movie. However, not every character gets their own show. The main focus is on established heroes like Obi-Wan Kenobi, who continues his story after *Revenge of the Sith*, and Ahsoka Tano, seeking closure with Grand Admiral Thrawn. This leaves other Star Wars characters competing for limited screen time.

Lucasfilm eases some fan expectations by including cameos in its animated shows, where there’s less pressure. The newest Disney+ series, *LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy – Pieces of the Past*, is no exception, featuring several recognizable characters. Interestingly, a particularly beloved character makes their debut appearance in a TV show within the series. Hopefully, this isn’t just a single appearance, but a hint that this character will play a larger role in future projects.

Cal Kestis Joins the Fight in Pieces of the Past

In *Pieces of the Past*, the LEGO Star Wars saga continues right after the events of *Rebuild the Galaxy*. Brothers Sig and Dev Greebling are still arguing, but they have bigger problems: the villain Solitus is after total domination. He traps Sig and his friends in the Forcehold, a strange place filled with discarded LEGO parts. To fight back, they gather a team of allies, including an unexpected good version of Emperor Palpatine and Dark Rey, and head to Solitus’s base. Things look grim at first, but the heroes turn the tables when Ashoka returns with reinforcements.

Chewbacca teams up with Cal Kestis, the hero of the *Star Wars Jedi* video games, to battle massive droids. Cal swiftly defeats enemies with his blue lightsaber, jokingly calling himself the last “Jedi survivor” – a nod to one of his game titles. This is a big step for Cal, as it marks his debut in a major *Star Wars* format like film or television. Cameron Monaghan returns to voice Cal in *Pieces of the Past*, showing his commitment to the character and fueling hopes for a live-action appearance.

Video Games Can’t Hold Cal Kestis Forever

The *Star Wars Jedi* games are so popular because they let you play as a strong Force user within the official Star Wars story. Cal Kestis’s journey happens during the height of the Empire’s power, which allows for appearances from famous villains like Darth Vader and Boba Fett. This era is a beloved part of Star Wars, so it’s a smart move for the game developers to focus on it. Plus, Cal is still alive in the games, suggesting he’ll have a long and exciting future.

Given the character’s recent popularity, Lucasfilm has a great opportunity to create a live-action series following his new adventures. Even if he achieves his goal of establishing a safe place, someone with his abilities likely won’t retire from the fight completely. Plus, actor Sam Monaghan is incredibly talented and well-suited to lead his own show. While his recent appearance in *Pieces of the Past* might have been just a nod to fans, Lucasfilm should seriously consider expanding on that and giving the character a full series – it would be a worthwhile investment.

LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy – Pieces of the Past is streaming on Disney+.
