Great news for Star Wars and video game fans! Cal Kestis, the main character from the *Star Wars Jedi* games, has officially appeared in a Disney+ TV show. Ever since he first appeared in *Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order* in 2019, fans have been eager to see actor Cameron Monaghan bring the character to live-action. While there have been hints and even a book released to bridge the gap between the games, this marks his first actual appearance in a TV series.
Fans were thrilled to see Cal Kestis join the new LEGO Star Wars special, *Rebuild the Galaxy: Pieces of the Past*, alongside familiar characters like Ahsoka, Anakin Skywalker, and Darth Maul.
The new animated series teased the character Cal in its promotion, and now viewers can finally see him in action.
In Episode 2 of *Pieces of the Past*, voiced by John Monaghan, this character appears in Force Hold, a prison existing between dimensions. The series’ main character, Sig Greebling, and his brother, Darth Dev, are sent there by the antagonist, Solitus.
I was really blown away when they introduced Cal! Seeing him right up there with characters like Darth Maul in a parka and a massive Ahsoka Tano was wild. But then he actually *looked* at me – well, at the camera – and said, “Name’s Cal Kestis. I was the only Jedi survivor in my galaxy.” It was such a powerful moment!
I’m Cal Kestis. I’m the last Jedi Knight left after a terrible event wiped out all the others. Everything changed in an instant – it was over before I knew it.
The new characters Cal and others Sig and Dev meet in Force Hold are essentially remnants from alternate galaxies, similar to the one where the show’s main characters, two brothers, live – galaxies that, as Ahsoka explains, have been reshaped.
This character appears a few more times alongside Sig and Dev’s team of heroes, but mainly just participates in the adventure without having a significant role.
You can now watch LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy: Pieces of the Past on Disney+. This four-part series tells an epic story across different universes, where the Star Wars galaxy has fallen into pieces.
I’m so excited for the next chapter in Sig Greebling’s journey! After everything that happened in the first season of *Rebuild the Galaxy*, where he was mixing up the galaxy in such a fun way, *Pieces of the Past* takes him to the very edges of the multiverse. Apparently, that’s where all the leftover bits and pieces from different realities end up, and he’s going to be dealing with them now. It’s going to be wild!
What’s Next For Cal Kestis in Star Wars?
With the story opening up possibilities for Cal Kestis, even through non-official LEGO Star Wars content, expect to see even more demand for his character and stories in the future.
As a huge fan of the *Star Wars Jedi* games, I’m pretty confident we’ll see Cameron Monaghan back as Cal Kestis for a third installment. The way *Survivor* ended definitely hinted that this next game will be the final chapter of Cal’s journey, and it looks like he’s going to be seriously wrestling with the pull of the dark side. It’s going to be intense!
What happens to the character next is still unknown. However, actor Brendan Monaghan has repeatedly expressed his desire to return to the role in a live-action Star Wars project. He stated in August 2022 that there is definitely interest in making that happen.
He reiterated this in February 2023, clarifying that he would only proceed if it had real significance.
Q: “Would you be interested in playing Cal Kestis in live-action?”
I’d only consider a return if it genuinely moved the story or character forward. I wouldn’t want the character to just appear without a purpose. It needs to be meaningful and have a real impact. If it makes sense within the story, then yes, I’d be open to it.
Whether any of this will actually happen depends on if Disney is interested in bringing Cal back into the broader Star Wars universe beyond the video games. Fans have speculated about possible appearances in the upcoming animated series *Maul: Shadow Lord*, or perhaps an older version of Cal in Season 2 of *Ahsoka*.
For now, though, the character’s cameo appearance in Pieces of the Past will have to do.
