For enthusiasts of Call of Duty, here’s some exciting news: Details about the upcoming installment in the annual series, tentatively titled Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, will be unveiled during Opening Night Live at Gamescom 2025 on Tuesday, August 19, at 11:00 a.m. Pacific Time/ 2:00 p.m. Eastern Time.
Geoff Keighley, who hosts Summer Game Fest, Opening Night Live at Gamescom, and the Game Awards, announced this news via Twitter on Monday. He hinted that Black Ops 7 would make a grand entrance to kick off Gamescom.
The forthcoming game was initially teased with a CGI trailer at the conclusion of the Xbox Games Showcase in June. This trailer reintroduces protagonist David Mason, who was a playable character in the campaign of 2012’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.
Interestingly, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 marks the first time the franchise will see a sequel released back-to-back, following closely on the heels of last year’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. Treyarch and Raven Software are once again taking charge of co-development, having also led development for Black Ops 6 and 2020’s Black Ops: Cold War.
It appears that we can anticipate a comprehensive unveiling for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, which might include glimpses into the campaign, multiplayer, and zombies aspects of the game. Additionally, it’s reasonable to expect a release date announcement for the title.
This fall, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is expected to be launched on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Windows PC (via Battle.net, Steam, and Xbox PC), PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4. As an exclusive Xbox game, it’ll be accessible from day one on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass.
At this time, there is no information about a Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game, but rumors suggest that Activision remains dedicated to bringing the Call of Duty series to Nintendo’s platform, as previously pledged by Microsoft during its attempt to acquire Activision Blizzard King in 2023.
Xbox is busy at Gamescom 2025
As an observer, I’m excited to announce that Activision is joining the fray with Black Ops 7, and other Xbox teams are confirmed for Gamescom. Bethesda Softworks will be there as well, although it remains a mystery what they’ll be showcasing. However, Blizzard Entertainment has made it clear that they’re diving deep into Midnight, the upcoming expansion for World of Warcraft.
On a personal note, I’m eagerly anticipating any updates Bethesda might share on Starfield’s future plans, particularly news about the next rumored expansion and any developer-planned updates.
