Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is now desperately trying to stop you from rage-quitting those super sweaty lobbies

I was really hooked on Black Ops 7’s multiplayer when it first came out. I put in a solid 15 hours, grinding my way to Prestige within the first few days. Once I’d had my fill of that, I decided to switch gears and check out the campaign.

When I got home tonight, everything felt off. It seems like the weekend was really intense, because I couldn’t find a game lobby that wasn’t filled with highly competitive, and sometimes unpleasant, players.

I’ve noticed that Black Ops 7 now displays a message when you attempt to exit a match you’re not having fun with. I’ve included a screenshot below for reference.

Just a heads-up: if you leave this game, you’ll lose your Match Bonus XP—usually around 3000 to 5000 XP—and it will be recorded as a loss.

This is just an idea, but of the two points brought up, most people will likely only be interested in one of them – particularly at the moment.

Players are focused on improving their ranks, weapons, and cosmetic unlocks. It feels like no one is actually trying to win matches, and that’s always been my biggest issue with Call of Duty multiplayer.

People have lots of reasons for playing, but winning itself isn’t usually one of them. It’s unlikely this will change how anyone feels, but it’s frustrating that you almost *have* to play competitive ranked mode just to find teammates who are actually trying to win. If winning actually offered rewards, maybe that wouldn’t be the case.

I believe this approach is better than simply trying to keep you on the page with a pop-up. The current system doesn’t offer any strong incentive to continue, so there’s no real motivation to try and succeed.

If you’re a more relaxed player, the initial days of the game might have been overwhelming. The multiplayer lobbies were incredibly busy, and I personally found it tiring, spending the first two days exclusively playing that mode.

I enjoy playing quite a bit, though I’m not amazing at player-versus-player combat. I usually manage to do okay, but things have been really intense this year.

Overall, I’ve really enjoyed it. The maps in Black Ops 7 are a big improvement over those in Black Ops 6, even though everyone seems fixated on playing Raid.
