Call the Midwife 2025 Christmas specials air dates and times confirmed by BBC

Call the Midwife fans have another special year ahead! In addition to the traditional holiday episode, this year will feature two brand new festive specials.

We finally have the air dates! Luckily, you won’t have to wait long between episodes, as they’ll be shown on two nights back-to-back. The two Call the Midwife specials will air at 8:15pm on Christmas Day and 8:30pm on Boxing Day.

Each hour-long episode follows Violet and Fred as they travel to Hong Kong to see her son. They arrive to find the family’s home in Kowloon has collapsed, resulting in several deaths.

With time running out, a rescue operation is quickly put together, and the team at Nonnatus House rushes to make arrangements to leave and help.

Cyril is surprised by a request from a visitor. Simultaneously, Rosalind and Joyce are hosting a Christmas party, and Sister Catherine finds herself helping two expectant Irish Traveller mothers who are living in a camp.

I’ve heard from the people making the show that this year’s Christmas episodes are going to be really different from what we’re used to – a fresh take on the holiday spirit, apparently! I’m so excited to see what they’ve come up with.

McGann also mentioned a Christmas special that he finds particularly funny. He explained that while it has the usual dramatic moments, there’s a fantastic scene he won’t spoil, but assures viewers it’s excellent.

Laura Main explained that the Christmas specials will explore uncharted territory, both in terms of location and the storylines within Poplar. She described it as a completely fresh direction for the show.

The Hong Kong storyline will bring a tragic turn to events, as a disaster strikes the mission. The building collapses due to a ground failure, resulting in deaths and leaving the nuns and orphans homeless. As Jenny Agutter explained, the ground simply gave way, completely destroying the mission and leaving everyone displaced.

I heard she explained that a small group is heading to Hong Kong to see if they can offer support, find a new location, and generally help get things sorted out.

Rebecca Gethings is back as Sister Veronica, and she’s shared a glimpse of what’s to come. In the new episodes, Sister Veronica and Nurse Crane discover a baby abandoned in a cardboard box, only hours after its birth. While the situation initially seems dire, the mother eventually returns for the baby, creating a heartwarming but emotionally challenging moment for Sister Veronica.

She’s grown very attached to the baby. She feels happy that he’ll be alright and reunited with his mom, but she also secretly wishes she could keep him.

Helen George, known for her role in Call the Midwife, recently chatted with TopMob about the upcoming Christmas episodes. She shared that her character and Matthew are in a good place, noting that their relationship feels more secure than it ever has before.

The new episodes of Call the Midwife promise the show’s signature blend of warmth and emotion, and fans are eagerly anticipating their arrival!
