A manga artist who previously had a series cancelled is getting another chance with a new one this year. Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump recently ended Akira Inui’s Alien Headbutt after just 16 chapters. However, the magazine is also launching three new series throughout June, and one of them will be created by an artist who’s worked with Shonen Jump before.
Kento Terasaka started their career with Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump in 2023 with the series Green Green Greens. However, it was cancelled after a short run of 26 chapters, lasting just under a year. Now, Shueisha has announced Terasaka’s return with a new series called HAL FORMULA in June, marking their second chance to connect with fans and hoping for a longer-lasting success.
Green Green Greens Creator Returns to Shonen Jump After 2 Years

Kento Tersaka is launching a new series called HAL FORMULA in Shonen Jump, marking his return after a two-year hiatus since Green Green Greens ended. Details about the new series are scarce, with only a brief preview available so far, but it’s scheduled to begin publication in just over a week. Taishi Tsutsui, the creator of We Never Learn: Bokuben, will debut a new series on June 8th, and Tersaka’s series will follow the week after. It’s currently unknown which ongoing series will conclude to make space for HAL FORMULA.
I’m really excited about HAL FORMULA! It’s a racing series, which makes total sense given the author’s first manga was a sports story. Honestly, racing hasn’t really broken through in Shonen Jump lately, so I’m hoping this one can fill that gap. Shonen Jump could really use another strong sports title, especially with Blue Box finishing up soon. It feels like HAL FORMULA will stand out from a lot of the other new series just by being something different!
Why Did Green Green Greens Get Cancelled?

While Green Green Greens wasn’t a bad series when it ended after less than a year, it struggled with problems common to many unsuccessful Shonen Jump manga. It didn’t immediately resonate with fans due to its unusual focus on golf, and it couldn’t overcome that initial lack of popularity. Nowadays, new Shonen Jump series need to be hits right away, or they quickly get lost among the others.
It’s tough for new manga artists in Shonen Jump to gain a following these days. If a series doesn’t become popular within the first ten chapters, it’s usually cancelled. While some series, like Ultimate Exorcist Kiyoshi, have managed to turn things around with a late surge in popularity, that’s happening less and less often. Hopefully, Kento Terasaka will have more success this time around.
