Cancelled Shonen Jump Manga Confirms Return Ahead of Anime Revival

A popular manga previously cancelled by Shonen Jump is making a comeback! Not only will new chapters be released, but a brand new anime series is scheduled to premiere this summer. Shonen Jump has seen a lot of classic manga return in recent years with sequels, revivals, and reboots. It’s been exciting for fans to see long-finished series get new anime adaptations, and this is just the latest example.

Tsuyoshi Takaki’s manga, Black Torch, first appeared on Shueisha’s Jump+ app in 2016. Although the series was canceled after 19 chapters and two years, it’s making a comeback! To celebrate the upcoming anime adaptation this summer, the manga will be reprinted in Japan. You can see special artwork by Takaki announcing the reprint, which will be available on June 4th.

Black Torch Manga to Return Ahead of Anime Revival

Good news for fans of Black Torch! The manga’s five volumes will be reprinted in Japan, and a new box set will be released in North America. Viz Media announced these re-releases to coincide with the upcoming anime revival, with the books hitting shelves on September 22nd. The anime Black Torch will officially premiere on July 4th, 2026, as part of the summer anime season. Fans at Anime Expo 2026 will get a sneak peek just a few days before the official launch. Viewers in North and South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, and CIS countries (along with Japan) will be able to stream the new episodes exclusively on Crunchyroll, with both Japanese and English audio options.
