Capcom, famous for games like Resident Evil and Monster Hunter, is reportedly working on a remake of a highly-regarded PlayStation 2 title – considered one of their all-time greats. While Resident Evil is now what most people think of when they hear “Capcom,” that hasn’t always been the case. In the past, other series have been just as important to the company, and some of those are now making a comeback.
It’s been seven years since the last full installment of Capcom’s action-packed Devil May Cry series. While there was a mobile game released in 2024 called Devil May Cry: Peak of Combat, we haven’t seen a main Devil May Cry game since Devil May Cry 5 in 2019. Rumors of Devil May Cry 6 have surfaced from time to time, but so far, none have proven true. Now, a new rumor is circulating – not about a sixth game, but about a complete remake of one of the existing Devil May Cry titles.
A Very Nostalgic Capcom Remake
A recent report suggests Capcom might be planning to remake the original Devil May Cry, similar to what they’ve done with Resident Evil. The information comes from leaker Stiviwonder, but details are scarce. Currently, there’s no news about which platforms the game might be on, when it could be revealed or released, or what changes the remake will include.
The original Devil May Cry came out in 2001, and it was only available on the PlayStation 2. It received a score of 94 on Metacritic, making it a critically acclaimed game of the early 2000s and launching a popular action series. However, Capcom hasn’t significantly revisited the game since, only releasing it again a couple of times. This remake would be a completely new version of the original.
Keep in mind that everything we’ve discussed is unconfirmed. It’s not official, and even if it’s currently true, things could easily change. We’ve heard similar rumors before – for years, people said Capcom was planning a remake of Dino Crisis like they did with Resident Evil, but that never happened.
