As a long-time fan, I was so excited to see Capcom hinting at the comeback of one of their oldest series! Capcom’s been around since 1979 – that’s practically the beginning of video games! Over the years, they’ve given us so many iconic games like Resident Evil, Street Fighter, Monster Hunter, Mega Man, and tons more. They have a huge library, including some older series they haven’t touched in a while. But now, it looks like one of their really classic, original series – one that hasn’t been super active lately – is making a return, and Capcom just dropped a little tease to get us all hyped!
Capcom is gearing up to celebrate Mega Man’s 40th anniversary in 2027. Producer Shingo Izumi recently hinted at more to come for the franchise, beyond the already announced Mega Man: Dual Override (also known as Mega Man 12). This suggests Capcom has several plans for the series, aligning with earlier reports about its future.
Good News Coming
According to a Capcom producer speaking with Famitsu, the Mega Man series will turn 40 in 2027. They plan to use 2026 to build excitement for the anniversary and share some exciting news with fans. Capcom thanks fans for their ongoing support of the Mega Man series.
Izumi mentioned the Mega Man series in a 2026 context, but currently, there aren’t any confirmed plans for the series that year. It’s possible this is a hint of future developments, or it could simply be standard promotional language. We don’t have enough information to know for sure.
First appearing in 1987, Mega Man is one of Capcom’s longest-running franchises. While Capcom created even older games like Commando, Vulgus, and 1942, most of those series have faded into obscurity. Mega Man, however, has stayed popular for nearly forty years. Though it’s not as widely played as it once was – it’s been almost ten years since a new main Mega Man game was released – Capcom seems pleased with how well the series continues to sell.
