Capcom announced it intends to bring back several of its older game series. In a recent report outlining future goals, COO Haruhiro Tsujimoto stated the company will continue to focus on popular franchises like Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, and Street Fighter. However, Capcom also plans to revisit some of its less active series, including Mega Man, Devil May Cry, and Ace Attorney.
In a recent statement, Tsujimoto explained that the company is tackling challenges one step at a time to increase its chances of success. Their primary focus is on key franchises like Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, and Street Fighter, with plans for new entries, sequels, remakes, original games, and bringing content to current platforms. While they currently release two to three major games annually, they understand the importance of expanding their development pipeline for the future.
Capcom has many well-known and loved game series around the world, including Mega Man, Devil May Cry, and Ace Attorney. We plan to reach more players and improve our business by releasing new games, updating older titles, and bringing them to new gaming systems. We want to make these series even stronger brands with dedicated fans, turning them into key parts of our company.
Tsujimoto highlighted Capcom’s progress over the past year, pointing to several key decisions and projects. These included the new development facility being built in Osaka – first announced in May – and ongoing efforts to enhance their RE Engine.
As a big fan, I was really excited to read that the team is building a brand new development facility right next to their main office! It’s great to hear they’re investing in the future, and it’s planned to be finished in 2027. They’ve even bought extra land nearby, which suggests even bigger things could be coming! What’s especially cool is that they built their RE Engine themselves, and they’re constantly improving it to make sure it stays cutting-edge and helps them work even better. It’s awesome to see them focused on both creative power and technical innovation.
Honestly, when I heard them say Mega Man, I got really excited! It’s been a while since we’ve seen a proper new game – Mega Man 11 came out way back in 2018, and since then it’s mostly just been re-releases of older titles. Capcom actually said a few months ago, back in July, that Mega Man is still important to them, but they didn’t have anything new to announce then. I’m hoping this mention means something’s finally in the works!
The most recent main installment of Devil May Cry, Devil May Cry 5, came out in 2019, followed by a smaller Special Edition in 2020. Capcom hasn’t announced a new game since then, but the popular animated series on Netflix has likely increased fan interest in the franchise.
The most recent Ace Attorney release was Ace Attorney Investigations Collection last year. However, it’s been a while since a completely new game in the series, with the last major installment, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Spirit of Justice, coming out in 2016.
