In the dusty trails of progress, Cardano dons a new hat—one of open arms and nimble minds.
Charles Hoskinson, a man with the weight of a thousand blockchain dreams, announced on a sun-baked May 10 that the network was about to take a leap, reminiscent of a country folk setting out to tame wild, uncharted lands.
Cardano Opens Ecosystem to Speed Up Innovation
Like a weary farmer finally embracing modern tools, Hoskinson declared that the new way would invite fresh hands to till the soil of innovation. Gone are the days of solitary stubbornness; now, outsiders can join in, armed with both wit and grit, to ward off the creeping vines of delay.
The old ways, marked by caution and endless planning, were as cherished as a family heirloom—but, alas, sometimes even heirlooms need an upgrade. Cardano’s foundation was built on the sturdy rock of formal verification, yet that rock sometimes proved too heavy for rapid growth.
In a moment of self-aware mischief, Hoskinson noted that Cardano’s love for deep-rooted tradition had occasionally tripped it up, making it a bit slow and inflexible like a stubborn mule refusing to budge.
“The team didn’t want deadlines, focused on purity of practice, and thought in terms of years and decades. This benefited us tremendously in an age of unsafe practices, but also made it difficult for Cardano to grow and thrive,” Hoskinson mused with a wry smile, as if sharing a secret over a campfire.
To counter the lethargy, Cardano is rallying lean, agile squads, naming them Aiken and Midgard, who promise to shake things up with a dash of modern daring.
These newcomers will rub shoulders with the seasoned pros from Input Output’s elite formal verification unit, a partnership where tradition meets the relentless pace of change—with a wink and a nudge, ensuring that security remains the trusty plow in this field of innovation.
“In 2025, we are opening up the ecosystem augmented with small agile teams like Aiken and Midgard, while preserving the knowledge, experience, and rigor with IOR and our formal methods group using Agda. We also see different clients that will and should challenge the assumptions, designs, and features of prior teams to accommodate new protocols, economic realities, and our progress as a community,” Hoskinson declared, as though outlining a master plan for a grand county fair.
He chuckled, admitting that while some old souls in the Cardano community might grumble over the newfangled ways, this is simply the nature of progress—ever changing and unpredictably delightful.
“There are times I miss the old days. But the new days will be filled with even greater opportunities and exciting new capabilities. That’s the nature of all great products and projects,” the Cardano founder concluded, with a twinkle in his eye that suggested both mischief and hope.
The winds of change have already unsettled Cardano’s inner workings.
Some contributors, caught in the act of planning delays like misfit cowboys plotting a late harvest, were shown the door. Hoskinson was unyielding on matters of time—after all, a delay in the Leios upgrade was simply not in the spirit of a wild, blossoming venture.
Because I want Leios in 2026 not 2028 and I value Pragma and different ideas and implementations. No more fucking games or delays. Cardano needs to get to the next level. — Charles Hoskinson (@IOHK_Charles) May 10, 2025
Jeff Watson, the man in charge of keeping the engines of progress well-oiled at Input Output, confirmed that reinforcements are on the way. New contractors are being welcomed from the Cardano fold, fresh faces ready to push the Leios upgrade faster than a runaway stagecoach on a dusty trail.
“We are in the process of hiring new contractors through the Cardano ecosystem, vendors with existing Networking expertise. Some time will be needed for onboarding but this is within an acceptable timeframe,” Watson remarked, as if nudging a friend to get up and dance at a barn party.
As rival blockchains like Ethereum race ahead in the innovation derby, Cardano is determined not to be outpaced—yet it clings to its treasured philosophy of security, much like a weathered farmer guarding his prized crops from the whims of fate.
