Cardi B had some trouble staying up.
The rapper recently went to trial, accused of assaulting a security guard outside a Beverly Hills office in 2018. She was found not guilty. The trial gained a lot of attention online, with memorable moments like her admitting to wearing wigs in court and appearing to doze off during the final statements.
Cardi B admitted to Jennifer Hudson on September 15th that she had indeed fallen asleep during court proceedings. She explained she’d had a late night working on her new album and was simply exhausted.
She continued, “I was trying to fight it, but it’s like I can’t. I just couldn’t.”
The 32-year-old showed everyone the breathing exercise she used to try and stay awake-inhaling through her nose and exhaling through her mouth-before confessing, “But I ended up falling asleep anyway.”
The trial ended on Sept. 2, after which Cardi reaffirmed her innocence outside the courthouse.
She stated firmly, according to NBC News, that she absolutely did not harm the other woman, and she would maintain that claim even on her deathbed.
The 32-year-old also shared her desire that her fans don’t go after the plaintiff, Emani Ellis.
Cardi B hopes everyone will respect her sister and leave her alone. She asked fans not to harass her, comment on her appearance, or use hurtful language towards her.
According to court documents obtained by NBC News, Ellis claims in her lawsuit that Cardi B (born Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar) spat on her, scratched her face, and used racist language during an argument.
Cardi B acknowledged she spoke to Ellis, but firmly denied any physical altercation. She explained that Ellis had been filming her with a phone while she was pregnant with her daughter, Kulture, who is now 7 years old.
During questioning in court, Cardi B – who shares children Wave, 3, and Blossom, 11 months, with her ex, Offset – explained, according to NBC News, that she told the person, “Get out of my face! Why are you so close to me, and why are you recording me? Shouldn’t you be providing security?”
I was completely captivated by the trial, and honestly, some of the most talked-about moments happened online. There was this one exchange where the plaintiff’s lawyer seemed really fixated on Cardi B’s changing hairstyles throughout the proceedings. Her response was just perfect – she simply said, ‘They’re wigs!’ It was such a Cardi moment, and everyone immediately jumped on it. It really highlighted how she handles things with confidence and a bit of sass.
