Cardi B Reveals Why She Turned Down Super Bowl Halftime Show

Cardi B is holding off on performing at the Super Bowl—for now.

Previously, the artist famous for “WAP” turned down an invitation to perform at a prominent NFL half-time show as she believed she lacked enough well-known hits to serve as the main act.

Cardi B shared with Billboard in a September 3rd interview that she was invited to perform at the Super Bowl but declined. She expressed her belief that if the opportunity arises again, she’ll have even more hit songs, gain more experience, and be ready to seize it enthusiastically.

The 32-year-old, who earlier stated that she declined the Super Bowl 2019 opportunity in support of quarterback Colin Kaepernick’s activism, is fully committed to refining her skills.

She stated that she excels in her job and invests time in her music, showcasing this through her work. Many rappers have emerged and faded away, yet she remains, implying a longevity in her career. While others may dismiss her accent, she emphasizes the deliberate effort behind each piece of work. She assured that she never does anything haphazardly.

Due to various reasons, she needed over seven years to finally unveil “Am I the Drama,” which is the long-anticipated sequel to her 2018 debut album, “Invasion of Privacy.

She mentioned, “I’ve always had the intention of releasing a second album, but I hadn’t quite figured out the details yet.” For her, achieving success means hearing people say, “Her album is fantastic.

Cardi went on to say, “If folks are discussing my album at 3 a.m., that’s a victory for me because they can’t wait to undermine it. I even want those who dislike me to exclaim, ‘Wow. That stuff is fantastic!’

In addition, significant events have unfolded in the Grammy winner’s personal life following her breakthrough. For instance, she has become a mother to three children: Kulture (aged 7), Wave (aged 3), and Blossom (11 months). These children are shared with her former partner, Offset.

She expressed that having children transformed her into a true embodiment of womanhood. She questioned, “‘Is it a woman because of her physical form or culinary skills?’ What truly defines a woman is her maturity and intellect. Without offspring, I would not willingly make such selfless sacrifices.

Cardi said she’s also “experienced a lot” that helped her transform her mindset.

In my journey, I’ve come to realize the double-edged sword of fame – the adoration, yet also the hate, jealousy, and drama that often accompany it. Navigating a balance between my career and personal life has been challenging, but growth and maturity have been my constant companions. Along the way, I’ve learned to master my emotions, grasp the intricacies of life, and play life’s game more effectively, like a well-strategized chess match.
