After 25 years with the BBC, weather presenter Carol Kirkwood is leaving the network later this year.
Carol Kirkwood started working at the BBC in 1998 and has become a popular and well-known face for many viewers, especially as the weather presenter on BBC Breakfast.
For years, Kirkwood has been a reliable source for weather forecasts across the country, providing updates no matter the conditions – even famously reporting live from Wimbledon, rain or shine.
She frequently presents weather reports live from events like Royal Ascot and the Chelsea Flower Show, and also for the New Year’s Eve fireworks. Beyond these, she provides forecasts for big sporting occasions, including The London Marathon and major golf tournaments in the UK.

Kirkwood revealed live on BBC Breakfast this morning that he’s leaving his role as a weather presenter. He told hosts Sally Nugent and Jon Kay that it was a difficult decision because he enjoys his job and working with everyone at the BBC, as well as connecting with viewers over the years. He joked that he wants to retire while still able to cover all parts of the country, rather than needing assistance later on.
Kirkwood announced her departure, saying it’s been a real honor to present the weather each day. She said she’s always appreciated the job and loved every moment, from the early mornings to all types of forecasts. She’s grateful for the wonderful colleagues she’s worked with at BBC Breakfast, BBC Weather, and across the BBC, and thanked them for their support and friendship.
To everyone watching and listening – thank you so much for your kindness over the years. It’s been a real pleasure being part of your mornings. This wasn’t an easy choice, but it feels like the right time for me to move on, and I’ll always cherish the wonderful memories.

She really knows her stuff when it comes to everything – from the biggest shows and reality TV to those powerful, thought-provoking documentaries. Before TopMob, she was writing about reality TV and celebrity news at The Tab, and she’s got a Journalism degree, so she definitely knows how to tell a story!
