Caroline Flack revealed to have had plans to work on a documentary of her own just days before her death

The new Disney+ documentary, Caroline Flack: Search for the Truth, attempts to clarify the story surrounding the late TV presenter’s life. Her mother, Christine, leads an investigation into the events leading up to her daughter’s death, hoping to uncover the full truth.

This documentary represents a story Caroline was passionate about sharing with the world. She had begun developing it shortly before her death, following her arrest.

Caroline Flack, the former host of Love Island, tragically died by suicide in 2020 at the age of 40. This happened just weeks before she was scheduled to appear in court to defend herself against assault charges, which she denied.

The alleged victim, her boyfriend Lewis Burton, did not support prosecution.

After the presenter’s tragic death, many people criticized how the media covered both her exit from Love Island and the legal problems she was facing.

The new two-part documentary, now streaming on Disney+, includes voice recordings of the late star. In one recording, she tells a friend she was considering making a film about her experiences, saying, “I had an idea… sorry, I know you’re in the shower, but I think I should make a documentary about all of this. What do you think?”

Mollie, a friend of Caroline Flack, shared that she believed Caroline was improving in the days before her death, saying she seemed to be “getting stronger.”

She seemed to be regaining her strength by focusing on making a documentary. She told me she wanted to share what happened and tell her story. It felt like a turning point, and we actually believed the charges would be dismissed.

Dov Freedman, the head of Curious Films – the company that made the documentary – explained that Caroline was determined to correct misinformation and fight against the false stories circulating about her.

He explained that he and his partner, Charlie Russell, had a meeting with Caroline and her representatives to discuss working together and explore potential ideas for the project.

He explained that Caroline openly shared her motivations for making the film – wanting to tell a true story – and how upsetting it was to see inaccurate versions of events circulating.

He went on to say that she spoke warmly about her family, particularly her mother, Christine, and proposed we begin filming in Norfolk within a few days. The meeting was successful, and we received official approval just hours later. Unfortunately, the documentary never came to fruition, as the tragic news of Caroline’s passing spread just days after that.

We weren’t sure if Christine was aware Caroline was starting a project with us, but we felt we needed to reach out and offer our sympathy, as we can only imagine how much pain she and her family are experiencing.

Christine decided to participate in the documentary because she wanted a larger audience to help her explore questions she had.

This is the story Caroline envisioned when we first met her over five years ago, and it perfectly captures everything she wanted to express.

The documentary ‘Caroline Flack: Search for the Truth’ will be available on Disney+ starting November 10th. You can subscribe to Disney+ now for as little as £5.99 per month.
